The local athletics calendar is getting a major boost this April as the inaugural Hezekiel Sepeng Invitational arrives at the NWU McArthur Stadium. Sanctioned by World Athletics as a Continental Tour Challenger event, the meet brings a high-calibre international competition to the North West province.
Named after South Africa’s own Olympic silver medallist, the event aims to showcase both global talent and the country’s rising stars. While the full schedule spans 6–7 April, the main invitational events are set for Tuesday, 7 April.
World-Class Talent on Home Soil
The focus of the meet remains the middle-distance events, a fitting tribute to Sepeng’s legacy in the 800m. Spectators can expect a mix of tactical racing and raw speed as athletes look to secure ranking points on the Continental Tour. The field will feature a blend of international competitors and local favourites, making for a competitive atmosphere at the NWU tracks.
Event Logistics and Tickets
For those looking to catch the action live, the stadium is located at 71 Beyers Naude Avenue. Entry is straightforward, with tickets priced at R100.00 per person. Families are encouraged to attend, as children under 10 can enter for free.
