The Roots Venue in Potchefstroom will be hosting a Dahlia Workshop on 6 September 2025 from 10:00 to 12:30. The event is organised by The Flowery and will give participants hands-on experience with everything they need to start growing and caring for dahlias.
Cost and What’s Included
Tickets are priced at R750 per person, and it’s not just the usual “bring your own spade and good luck.” The fee covers:
Class Materials: two tubers, a pot with soil, gloves, tags, and a guide with a feeding schedule.
Nutrients: root starter, molasses, calcium, granular bloom, organic liquid fertiliser, and an IPM kit.
Only 12 spots are available, so it seems you’ll need quicker reflexes than a gardener spotting snails at midnight if you want in.
What You’ll Learn
The workshop is set up for those who want more than just a pretty flower in the corner of the garden. Participants will learn:
An introduction to dahlias
Planting techniques
Care and maintenance
Harvesting
End of season care
It’s a structured programme, but still practical enough that everyone walks away with something to actually put in the ground.
Venue and Location
The event will take place at The Roots Venue, located at 954 M C Roode St, Potchefstroom.
Refreshments
As if tubers and fertiliser weren’t enough, the workshop also includes a serving of cake or quiche with freshly brewed coffee. Because nothing says “successful gardening” like a good slice of cake after you’ve had a wrestle with compost.

Workshops like this remind us that gardening isn’t only about plants. It’s about slowing down, getting your hands dirty, and maybe discovering that patience is a lot easier to grow when you’ve got coffee and cake waiting at the end of it.
