The endurance and grit of The High School for Girls Potchefstroom are being taken to the national stage this week. Two of the school’s premier multisport athletes, April Allam and Ella Lombard, have been officially selected to represent the North West Province at the SA Biathlon Championships.
The prestigious event is set to take place in the scenic town of Oudtshoorn on 20–21 March 2026, where the country’s top biathletes will gather to compete for national honours.

The Ultimate Test of Versatility
Biathlon is a challenging sport that demands excellence in two very different disciplines: running and swimming. Athletes must transition their focus from the explosive power needed on the track to the rhythmic endurance required in the pool. For April and Ella, their selection is a testament to months of disciplined training and the mental toughness required to master both elements of the sport.
Determined to Succeed
The school community has rallied behind the duo, emphasizing that their journey to the SA Championships is built on a foundation of determination and self-belief. As they "Chase Greatness" in the Western Cape, they carry with them the pride of Potchefstroom and the legacy of excellence that defines their school.
Representing the North West
Wearing the provincial colours is a significant milestone for any young athlete. April and Ella will not only be competing for individual glory but will also be key contributors to the North West team’s overall standing in the national rankings.
