A significant milestone in community empowerment was achieved as non-profit organizations (NPOs) from Ventersdorp, Ikageng, and Promosa successfully concluded a Financial Literacy Workshop at North West University. The initiative reflects a growing collaboration between government, higher education, and civil society to strengthen accountability and trust in community development.

Partnership for Progress
The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Steenkamp with the active support of the Director of Local Economic Development (LED), Dr. Tebejane, and the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for LED, Cllr. Davis. Their joint involvement highlighted a united effort to ensure that knowledge and resources are not confined to academic spaces, but instead flow back into the communities that need them most.
Equipping NPOs with Essential Skills
The training aimed to provide NPOs with practical financial management skills, enabling them to serve their communities with greater responsibility and transparency. These tools are critical in fostering accountability to stakeholders, donors, and funders, while also ensuring that community organisations remain sustainable in the long term.
Participants expressed confidence that the skills gained would directly enhance their ability to inspire trust and deliver on their mandates. By strengthening the financial capacity of NPOs, the initiative also paves the way for more effective service delivery across vulnerable communities.
A Model of Collaborative Transformation
The JB Marks Local Municipality celebrated the success of the programme, emphasizing that this partnership demonstrates the power of unity between government, universities, and community structures. By working together, these sectors are not only building organizational strength but also driving genuine transformation on the ground.
The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to supporting such initiatives, which aim to uplift communities through skills development, institutional trust, and long-term empowerment.
