Vessels of Mercy launches no-cost support session for caregivers
If you’re a foster or safety parent looking for support, understanding, and maybe even a decent cup of tea, Vessels of Mercy is hosting an event that might be worth your while. The non-profit organisation has announced a free meet-and-greet event aimed specifically at those who care for foster or safety children.
The session takes place on Thursday, 31 July 2025 from 18:00 to 20:00 at 127 Hoffman Street, Potchefstroom.
And no, this isn’t one of those “bring your own snacks” kind of event, light snacks, tea and coffee will be provided. Children are welcome too, which is probably a good thing since this group knows all too well that parenting doesn’t clock out at 6PM.
Meet Susan: 17 Years of Experience in the Trenches
The evening will feature Susan, who brings real-world experience to the table. She’s been a foster parent since 2008 and opened a house of safety for abused children back in 2010. In 2023, she graduated cum laude as a social worker, as if she didn’t already have enough on her plate.
Susan has worked with defiant children for 17 years and, by all accounts, lived to tell the tale. Her story is expected to resonate with attendees who are walking the same path or thinking about taking their first steps into the foster care system.
What’s This About?
Hosted by Vessels of Mercy, a North West-based non-profit, the event is part of the organisation’s broader mission to support foster children and the families who take them in. Their focus is on providing a safe, nurturing environment, not just for the kids, but for the carers too.
Their vision is simple: a world where every child is part of a loving family. No frills, no marketing fluff, just genuine care and support.
Want In?
There’s no cost to attend, but you are asked to RSVP to Lizelle at 082-493-8965.

Whether you're a long-time foster parent or just starting out, this session might be just the thing to remind you that you’re not alone, and that someone else’s child has probably scribbled on the walls too.
