If you think trail running is all about quiet forests and rhythmic breathing, the Hartspad Hustle is here to mess with that image in the best possible way. Hosted at Hartspad Adventure Trails just outside Potch, this is part trail race, part obstacle course, and part… well, something between a family day and an episode of Wipeout.
It’s billed as “where trail meets adventure” and promises to challenge legs, lungs and possibly your dignity, especially when balancing on a beam in front of your children.

Pick Your Poison: 5k, 10k or the Full 15k Slog
Three race options give participants the freedom to suffer mildly or go full bushwhacker:
5km – Ideal for beginners or families who want more giggles than groans
10km – A middle-ground route for moderate mid-packers
15km – For people who call this “fun” and actually mean it
Each kilometre brings a surprise in the form of a challenge station. And yes, there are 15 of them. You might be tossing logs, balancing on beams, or throwing a javelin made from a stick. There’s even memory match and leaf ID games, because your brain shouldn’t be left out of the suffering.
Kids, Families and Mini-Hustlers Welcome
This isn’t just for Lycra-clad trailies. Families are actively encouraged to bring the herd. Kids under 12 join for free on the 5km route (called “Mini-Hustlers”), with adjusted tasks at each station so they don’t end up in tears, or therapy.
If the young ones aren’t up for the run, there’s a dedicated Kids Play Zone at the finish to keep them busy while you limp back with leaves in your hair and honour in your heart.

What You’re In For (Besides Pain and Laughs)
Here’s what’s included in your entry:
Finisher’s medal (yes, everyone gets one, this isn’t Comrades)
Well-marked trails through forest and veld
Water points and snacks
Music, food stalls and a laid-back family vibe at the start/finish
Prizes for speed freaks and high scorers in the challenge zones
Bonus branded buff or cap for the first 20 entries in the 15km
If you’re in it to win it, there’s recognition for the fastest per distance, as well as the much-coveted titles of Challenge King or Queen.
