The JB Marks Local Municipality has issued its daily progress report reflecting service delivery actions across multiple departments. The update, last recorded on 29 September 2025 at 19:55, covers repairs in water services, sewer management, waste collection, and infrastructure upgrades. While certain departments are still pending reports, the municipality emphasized notable achievements in essential services such as leak repairs, blockage clearance, waste collection, and reservoir management.

Water Services: Leak Repairs and Infrastructure Protection
The water services division reported significant progress in addressing leaks, pipe bursts, and valve replacements across various neighborhoods. Two supervisors, Ntate Mpho Kometsi and Ntate Sebatana, coordinated operations at multiple sites.
Supervisor Kometsi oversaw the installation of a new gate valve in Siyabulela Street, replacement of a burst connection tee in Tswelelopele Street, and several connection repairs including at Kweti and Makgwoa Streets. Excavation trenches in Tswelelopele were also closed with crusher sand to secure previously disturbed areas.
Meanwhile, Supervisor Sebatana managed work in Mare Street, Arabelang Street, and Extension 11, where multiple meter leaks and connection issues were resolved. New installations were also completed in Sekhute and Tlhapi Streets. Together, the teams resolved more than a dozen water-related problems in a single day, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to minimising wastage and improving supply reliability.
Sewer Services: Preventing Public Health Hazards
Sewer maintenance operations were led by Supervisor Ntate Motsamai, who coordinated six interventions across Khutsong. These included unblocking manholes and clearing mainlines in Letsholo, Mokgobo, and along Modiboa and Nkosi. Additional blockages were removed in Kgaratlho and Lekhele.
By addressing these issues promptly, the sewer team mitigated potential health risks linked to overflow and contamination. The municipality noted that such interventions are vital for safeguarding public health, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods.
Waste Management: Full Collection Despite Equipment Challenges
Waste management supervisors, Sipho Nxamakele and Felicity Jansen, confirmed that household bins, business premises, and identified hotspots all achieved a 100 percent collection rate. This was despite a reported reduction in available equipment, with one truck out of service.
The municipality credited the achievement to longer working hours and resource adjustments, emphasising that maintaining clean streets remains a priority. The update underscored that uninterrupted waste services are central to community hygiene and environmental sustainability.

Reservoir Levels: System-Wide Update
A detailed water system report reflected generally positive recovery trends across reservoirs supplying the JB Marks region.
Vyfhoek Complex: All reservoirs, including the 6.4ML and two 3.4ML reservoirs, reported full capacity and optimal supply to northern suburbs.
Old Works Reservoir: Recovery reached 77.27%, ensuring improved supply to the central business district and industrial areas.
Ventersdorp Road Reservoirs: Levels ranged between 57.14% and 67.86%, indicating gradual but stable recovery.
Ikageng Area: The main reservoir reported 90.91% capacity, while the west reservoir achieved full supply.
Eesterandjies Complex: Capacity was recorded at 27.27% due to ongoing maintenance.
The municipality described the overall system as showing steady improvement, with significant progress in securing stable water supply.
Ikageng Reservoir Pump Station Upgrade Completed
One of the day’s key highlights was the completion of the Ikageng Reservoir Pump Station upgrade. The project included installation of new bases for Pump No. 8, motor alignment, pipeline replacement, generator installation, and bulk pipeline upgrades. The final step, commissioning, is now underway.
According to the municipality, this infrastructure improvement will provide reliable water supply to Ikageng and surrounding extensions for decades to come, marking a milestone in long-term service delivery planning.
Departments Pending Reports
While progress was reported in water, sewer, waste, and infrastructure upgrades, several departments had not yet submitted updates. These include paving, road marking, electrical services, parks, and certain urban water and sewer teams. The municipality urged these divisions to improve reporting in order to ensure their work is acknowledged and integrated into the daily accountability process.

Community Notices
Residents were also informed of upcoming activities affecting roads and paving. Work on Sooliman Street will continue, while Tambo Street in Extension 11 is scheduled for paving in the near future. Temporary access restrictions are expected during construction. Contact numbers for roads, disaster services, electricity, and sewer issues were also provided to the public.
Wrap-Up
The JB Marks Local Municipality’s daily report highlighted 13 resolved water infrastructure issues, six sewer blockages cleared, 100 percent waste collection achieved despite reduced resources, seven reservoirs showing strong recovery, and the successful completion of a major pump station upgrade. More than 40 municipal staff members contributed to these results.
While challenges remain and certain departments have yet to provide updates, the progress reflects ongoing efforts to balance urgent repairs with long-term infrastructure investments. The municipality stated that continued monitoring, transparency, and resource coordination will remain essential in ensuring consistent service delivery for residents.
