Between 3 and 4 September 2025, JB Marks Local Municipality advanced its Phase 5 Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, Thuntsa Lerole through a series of activities across the region. The build-up events combined community engagement, recognition of local non-profit organizations (NPOs), and youth development opportunities, reflecting the municipality’s multi-sector approach to service delivery.
These efforts demonstrate an ongoing commitment to empowering communities, strengthening grassroots development, and preparing residents for the official provincial Phase 5 Thuntsa Lerole launch scheduled for 5 September 2025 in Ga-Mogopa.

Community Meeting in Ga-Mogopa (3 September 2025)
A critical community engagement session was hosted in Ga-Mogopa Village, led by Ward 31 Councillor Musa Leom Mkhabela.
The meeting formed part of the Thuntsa Lerole build-up programme and provided residents with an opportunity to interact directly with key government departments.
Departments Represented:
🚨 District Disaster Management – Addressed safety and preparedness issues, particularly in disaster-prone areas.
🏡 Human Settlement, DEDECT, Local Economic & Rural Development – Shared guidance on:
Spaza shop registrations
Hawker permits
Liquor license applications and compliance
Settlement and housing concerns
🎭 Department of Sport, Arts & Culture – JB Marks LM, Encouraged local artists and creatives to register on the Creative Database, ensuring they are included in future municipal and provincial cultural initiatives.

Celebrating Community NPOs (3 September 2025)
On the same day, the Local Economic Development – Socio-Economic Development Unit hosted an event under the Thuntsa Lerole banner to recognize the contributions of local NPOs.
NPOs Highlighted:
👏 Promosa Community Youth Centre (Tlokwe Region)
👏 Steve Biko Community Art Centre (Ventersdorp Region)
Both organizations were praised for securing stipend-bearing internships for youth during 2025.
➡️ Impact Story: A young coach from Promosa, supported through this initiative, successfully revived school hockey in Promosa, Mohadin, and Ikageng. This achievement is expected to inspire a sport-filled summer and encourage broader youth participation in local athletics.

Youth Tourism Adventure (4 September 2025)
The momentum continued with a two-day youth tourism initiative hosted at Real Adventures, Vredefort Dome, as part of Tourism Month activities.
The programme was organized by the Local Economic and Rural Development Department, with support from:
MMC Malverine Davis
Director Dr. Brenda Roberts-Tebejane
Partners from NWDEDECT
Focus Areas of the Programme:
🤝 Building essential teamwork skills
🌱 Promoting personal growth and development
🗺️ Raising awareness of local tourism opportunities
💼 Strengthening economic connections within JB Marks communities
💬 Key Note: By immersing youth in a practical tourism experience, the initiative not only highlighted the region’s natural and cultural assets but also positioned young people as ambassadors of local tourism growth.

Broader Significance of Build-Up Activities
The three events illustrate how the Thuntsa Lerole build-up programme integrates multiple dimensions of service delivery:
Community Engagement – ensuring residents can access government services and information directly.
Socio-Economic Development – recognizing NPOs as engines of grassroots transformation and youth empowerment.
Tourism and Economic Growth – building capacity among youth while promoting the JB Marks region as a hub for tourism opportunities.
Together, these activities reflect a holistic approach to service delivery, combining infrastructure, cultural development, and economic growth.
Final Word
As JB Marks Municipality progresses toward the provincial launch of Phase 5 of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, Thuntsa Lerole, the recent community meeting in Ga-Mogopa, the recognition of NPOs, and the youth tourism initiative stand as practical demonstrations of action on the ground.
These efforts emphasize collaboration, empowerment, and opportunity creation, values central to the long-term development of communities in both Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom. With residents, NPOs, and youth actively engaged, the build-up activities set a positive tone for the next phase of accelerated service delivery.
