The Junior Springboks continued their impressive run in the U20 International Series, securing a comprehensive 82-25 victory over Fiji at Wynberg Boys' High School. Following a massive opening-round win against Chile, the South African side once again displayed their clinical edge, crossing the whitewash 12 times in a high-scoring encounter that showcased both forward power and backline flair.

The match, which followed Georgia’s 59-26 win over Chile earlier in the day, saw South Africa take immediate control. Despite several injury-enforced changes to the pack—including the absence of loose forwards Risima Khosa and Vuyo Gwiji, the Junior Boks’ depth proved decisive. New captain Vusi Moyo led from the front, delivering a masterclass in goal-kicking by slotting 11 conversions to keep the scoreboard ticking at a relentless pace.
First Half Fireworks
South Africa’s dominance was established early through a mix of set-piece superiority and clinical finishing. Fullback Luan Giliomee, returning to the side alongside fit-again midfielders Christian Vorster and Pieter van der Merwe, made an immediate impact by scoring in the opening minutes. The Junior Bok pack was particularly effective, with Gert Kemp crossing twice from well-executed lineout drives, while Quintin Potgieter and JD Hattingh also benefited from the team’s powerful mauling game.
By the time the halftime whistle blew, the Junior Springboks had amassed a commanding 56-11 lead. Tries from Christian Vorster and Luke Cannon further emphasized the gap between the two sides, as the South African youngsters successfully balanced physical aggression upfront with slick distribution in the outer channels.
Second Half Resilience
Fiji emerged from the break with renewed energy, testing the South African defense and winning several scrum penalties. However, the Junior Boks remained composed. Giliomee completed a memorable hat-trick shortly after the restart, and replacements Bongani Dlamini and Luan Olivier added their names to the scoresheet as the bench made its presence felt.
The match saw a brief shift in momentum when Fiji was awarded a penalty try following a maul infringement, resulting in a yellow card for Altus Rabe. However, the Fijian comeback was hampered by a red card for a dangerous tackle later in the half. The Junior Boks capitalized on the numerical advantage, with lock Jaythen Orange scoring the final South African try to seal the result. While Fiji managed a late consolation try through Apete Rokosuka, the result was never in doubt.

Final Whistle
With two wins from two matches and over 170 points scored in the series so far, the Junior Springboks are hitting their stride at the perfect time. Head coach Kevin Foote’s strategy of squad rotation and managing player welfare appears to be paying dividends as the team builds momentum toward the upcoming Junior World Championship. The South African side will now shift their focus to the final round of the series in Stellenbosch, where they are scheduled to face a physical Georgian outfit at the Markötter Stadium.
