If the idea of wandering through the bush under a massive South African moon sounds better than another night on the couch, the annual Lekwena Full Moon Charity Event is back. Scheduled for Friday, 6 March 2026, at the Lekwena Wildlife Estate, the evening offers a chance to get some fresh air while supporting the Potchefstroom Dienssentrum vir Bejaardes.
All proceeds from the night go directly to the service centre for the elderly, so every step taken helps a good cause.

The Main Event: A Walk in the Dark
The highlight of the evening is the Moon Walk, a family-friendly out-and-back route covering approximately 7km in total. Participants don’t have to commit to the full distance; hikers are welcome to turn around whenever the legs start to protest.
Walking starts from 18:00, with the route entry closing at 20:00. It is a strictly "bring your own headlight" affair, as the wildlife estate doesn't come with streetlights. Along the way, there are water points to keep everyone hydrated, and those who make it to the turnaround point will find coffee and a pancake waiting for them.
Adults and older children will receive a Lekwena enamel mug to use at the refreshment stations. Those bringing toddlers should note that the free entry for children aged six and under does not include a mug, so packing a spare cup is a smart move.

Markets, Music, and Milk Tart
For those who prefer a slower pace, "Die Stoor" will host the Full Moon Market from 17:00 to 21:00. The evening includes live music, a cash bar, and various food stalls.
Parents can let the kids loose on the jumping castle and other organised activities. For the more energetically inclined, padel courts are available depending on availability, though these carry an additional cost.
Essential Details and Bookings
The estate gates open at 17:00 and will close for the night at 21:00. It is important to note that this is a weather-dependent event; if the clouds decide to open up, the walk will be cancelled.
Ticket Pricing:
Adults: R150
Children (7–13 years): R80
Children (6 and under): Free
Space is limited and entries are handled on a pre-booking basis only. There will be no tickets sold at the gate. Online sales via TIXSA close at 16:00 on the day of the event, or sooner if they sell out.
