In a significant move toward addressing the housing needs of the North West Province, a massive new residential development is officially getting underway in the JB Marks Local Municipality.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, MEC Gaoage Oageng Molapisi (Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs) and Executive Mayor Cllr Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele hosted a formal introduction of the three contractors tasked with bringing the Ikageng Ext 13 housing project to life.

Project Overview
This ambitious infrastructure project represents a substantial investment in the local community and the dignity of its residents. Here are the key details:
Scope: Construction of 1,075 houses.
Location: Ikageng Ext 13, JB Marks Local Municipality.
Investment: Valued at over R230 million.
Timeline: Construction is slated to commence in April 2026, with a projected completion window through March 2027.
Economic and Social Impact
The introduction of three separate contractors suggests a multi-front approach to ensure the project meets its rigorous one-year timeline. Beyond providing much-needed shelter, the R230 million injection is expected to stimulate the local economy through:
Job Creation: Providing employment opportunities for local laborers and artisans.
Skills Transfer: Enhancing the technical capabilities of the local workforce.
Infrastructure Growth: Strengthening the overall residential footprint of the North West Province.
A Unified Vision
The project is a collaborative effort between the provincial Coghsta department and the local municipality, aligned with the broader goals of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030. By prioritizing "Building a North West Province That Works For All," officials aim to significantly reduce the housing backlog in the region.
As the site at Ikageng Ext 13 transitions from a planning phase to a live construction zone this April, residents can look forward to seeing the skyline change as 1,075 new homes begin to take shape.
