The Athletics Central North West Masters will host their annual Masters Track and Field Championships at NWU McArthur Stadium, Potchefstroom, on 8 November 2025. The event promises a full day of serious competition, friendly rivalry, and the kind of banter that only seasoned athletes can deliver.
Who Can Enter
This one’s for the 30 years and older crowd, the athletes who may not be chasing Olympic dreams anymore but still have plenty of fire in their spikes.
Entries close on 1 November 2025 at 23:59, and organisers have made it clear: no late entries will be accepted, no matter how persuasive the excuses.
Entry fees are R90 per event, with an additional R70 for a temporary licence and R70 for age tags. Competitors can reach out to Nadine Fourie on 083 750 5512 for more information. Entry link.
Venue Details
The championships will take place at NWU McArthur Stadium, located at 71 Beyers Naudé Avenue, Potchefstroom. The stadium’s well-maintained track and field facilities make it a fitting venue for athletes from across the region to push boundaries and exchange good-natured jabs about whose knees make the loudest noise.
What’s on the Schedule
The programme is packed tighter than a relay handover zone, starting at 07:00 and running through to late afternoon. Events include:
Track events: 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m, 5000 m, hurdles (80 m – 400 m H), steeplechase, and race walking.
Field events: High jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin.
Men’s and women’s events run in overlapping sessions throughout the day, catering to age groups from 35 years up to 80 and beyond. According to the official programme , the action starts with the hammer throw and 5000 m race walk at dawn and wraps up with the 400 m races just before 16:00.
Expect everything from graceful high jumps to fiercely contested sprints, plus a few field-event legends reminding the young ones how it’s really done.
It’s not just about medals or records, it’s about the community that keeps showing up, year after year, to prove that age really is just a number (even if that number takes a bit longer to warm up).
So, mark 8 November 2025 on the calendar, lace up the spikes, and get ready for another great day of masters athletics at NWU McArthur Stadium.
