Merafong Municipality Warns of Critical Water Supply Levels as System Operates at 15% Capacity

The Merafong City Local Municipality has issued an urgent update to residents regarding severe water shortages across the region. According to the latest public notice dated 12 November 2025, the municipal water system is operating at only 15% capacity due to low inflow pressure and continuing supply restrictions from the bulk supplier. The situation has led to depleted reservoir levels and widespread outages, particularly in high-lying communities.

Supply Restriction Impact Across Key Areas

The municipality confirms that Fochville, Carletonville, Khutsong, Wedela, and Kokosi are among the most affected areas. Low inflow pressure, measured between 0.4 and 0.5 Bar, has significantly reduced the volume entering local reservoirs, making it difficult to maintain consistent supply to households and essential services.

Reservoir levels reflect the severity of the crisis, with several recorded as empty, low, or critical.
