During the first half of July 2026, the JB Marks Local Municipality became the focal point for several key administrative, infrastructural, and community-centered activities. Working in tandem with national and provincial government bodies, the local municipality sought to address critical challenges in water sanitation, housing delivery, road maintenance, and environmental hygiene. This report compiles the primary developments and service delivery updates that shaped the municipality's operational landscape during this period.

Thuntsha Lerole Initiative Brings Services to Matlwang Village
On 3 July 2026, Phase 6 of the Accelerated Thuntsha Lerole Service Delivery Programme was rolled out in Matlwang Village, Potchefstroom. This provincial initiative is specifically designed to fast-track municipal services and establish a direct government presence within local communities. The day’s activities were divided into key operational clusters to address different municipal and social needs.
In terms of physical infrastructure, the provincial maintenance team, under the direction of Public Works and Roads MEC Sempe Elizabeth Mokua, executed road rehabilitation works. These tasks featured blacktop patching along municipal road D642 in Matlwang. Concurrently, North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi and the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Gaoage Oageng Molapisi, conducted a site visit to inspect three refurbished boreholes in Ward 27. The borehole project, which was reported to be 80% complete with a final delivery target of late July 2026, is structured to supplement the existing water supply and improve local water access.
On the social services front, a food parcel distribution drive was launched at the local community hall. This cluster was led by North West Social Development Head of Department, Ms. Peggy Mhlongo-Kgaboesele, alongside Health MEC Sello Lehari. The food relief program specifically targeted families and individuals facing severe financial hardships and food insecurity, aligning with the department's annual performance objectives.

Government Officials Hand Over BNG Housing in Tshing
On 9 July 2026, a high-level government delegation facilitated the formal handover of Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses to beneficiaries in Ventersdorp. The housing allocation occurred across Extensions 9 and 10 in the township of Tshing.
The handover ceremony was led by the national Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, and the North West MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Gaoage Molapisi. The joint administrative effort aimed to directly address the regional housing backlog and provide secure, formalized shelter to eligible households within the JB Marks Local Municipality.

Technical Teams Address Water Supply Interruption in Ventersdorp
On 14 July 2026, the JB Marks Local Municipality issued an urgent media notice regarding an electrical fault that disrupted the water supply system serving the Ventersdorp Region. The electrical malfunction occurred at the water pump station connected to the newly constructed water treatment plant.
To mitigate a complete loss of water supply, the municipality temporarily operated a single water treatment plant. However, because this plant could not generate and pump sufficient volumes of water to meet the standard demand of local reservoirs, residents were cautioned that they might experience lower water pressure or temporary outages. Municipal electricians were dispatched immediately to troubleshoot and resolve the electrical fault, and the administration issued a formal apology to residents for the operational disruption.

Environmental Cleanup Campaign Launched for Mandela Month
On 15 July 2026, the Ventersdorp Region team from the national Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) initiated an outdoor public campaign. The environmental drive was organized in celebration of Mandela Month.
The DFFE team engaged in a physical cleanup of selected public areas while conducting a litter awareness campaign. The project focused on clearing public waste and educating community members on sustainable waste disposal practices, pollution prevention, and keeping local neighborhoods clean and healthy.

The varied activities recorded during the first half of July 2026 demonstrate the ongoing operational priorities within the JB Marks Local Municipality. By balancing immediate technical repairs, such as those at the Ventersdorp pump station, with long-term infrastructure upgrades and provincial service delivery campaigns, the local administration continues to manage the diverse municipal demands of its residents.
