There’s a new way for Potch locals to unwind that doesn’t involve wine, running shoes or paint nights, though a pen and a sense of humour might help. Oodles of Doodles Sketchbook Club is opening its sketchbooks on 30 October 2025, inviting grown-ups to get a bit messy with creativity from 17:30 to 19:30 at 9 Reitz Street, Potchefstroom.

What’s It All About?

Hosted by My Creative Fix, Oodles of Doodles is less about perfection and more about letting loose on paper. It’s a space where pens dance, imagination runs wild, and judgement takes the night off. Attendees can expect to learn drawing techniques, play with different mediums like ink and watercolour, and enjoy that odd mix of calm and chaos that comes with doodling.

Who It’s For

If you’ve ever uttered the words “I can’t even draw a stick figure”, this might be your scene. And if you’ve got sketchbooks piling up already, you’ll fit right in too. The club welcomes all skill levels, from complete beginners to the mildly obsessed. Think of it as art therapy with banter and coffee instead of couches and clipboards.

How It Works

• Membership costs R375, covering a monthly mix of:

• Three in-person meetups in Potch

• One online session connecting the local club to a bigger global doodle community

The format is relaxed but structured enough to keep those creative muscles moving. Expect lessons in line work, shading, textures, and the kind of mark-making that only makes sense once you’ve had a go at it.

The Launch

The launch event is free, but spots are limited, and registration is essential. It’s the perfect way to dip a toe (or pen) into the doodle pond before signing up. And yes, it’s strictly for adults this time; kids and teen classes are still on the drawing board.
