North-West University is set to host its inaugural NWU Farmers’ Day (Boeredag) on 12 March 2026. The event, themed "Sustainable Agriculture: Crossing Boundaries," will take place at the university’s Pienaarskamp farm, located along the R501 Carletonville Road.
The day is designed as a collaborative space where local producers, researchers, and industry players can meet to discuss the practicalities of modern farming. With a focus on climate-smart and regenerative practices, the programme aims to move beyond theory and into the field.
Field Demos and Industry Insights
Attendees can expect a hands-on look at the latest agricultural technology. The schedule includes practical demonstrations on precision agriculture, soil health management, and regenerative farming techniques. These sessions are intended to show how sustainable methods can be applied to commercial and emerging farming operations alike.
Local industry staples Genius Landini and Rovic have stepped on board as main sponsors for the day, ensuring a strong presence of machinery and technical expertise.
Fire Safety and Legislation
Safety and risk management also feature prominently on the agenda. The Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association (PBBV) will be present to engage with the farming community. Their team plans to provide information on veld and forest fire legislation, the importance of firebreaks, and the practical benefits of PBBV membership. For those looking to train farm workers in fire prevention, this will be a primary point of contact.
Event Logistics
The gates at Pienaarskamp open early, with proceedings running from 08:00 until 16:30. The day offers a "Farmers’ Knowledge Exchange" where stakeholders can share their own experiences and challenges in a relaxed environment.
