The NWU Gallery is setting the tone for the New Year by hosting a solo ceramic exhibition that will have art lovers flocking to the campus. Kicking off the gallery's 2026 calendar, the exhibition, titled "A Re Bopeng," features the work of artist Mpho Gorewang. - 28 January
A Date for Your Diary
The formal opening of the exhibition is scheduled for Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at 18:00. The gallery, situated in Building F16G on the NWU Potchefstroom campus, will host the event. Guests attending the opening can look forward to refreshments being served. Those keen to attend the opening night should note that strictly RSVP is required, which can be done via email to gallery@nwu.ac.za. Keep an eye out for a dedicated RSVP link, which is expected to follow soon.
If you miss the opening, don't fret. The exhibition will be on view until 20 March 2026.
More Than Just Pots
Gorewang’s work in A Re Bopeng invites the viewer to take a closer look at ceramics. The exhibition is described as a "captivating solo ceramic exhibition" where the artist bridges "ancient techniques and contemporary artistry." The work apparently tells "unique stories," emphasising that clay is a medium that has been "cherished for thousands of years." The pieces celebrate the "beauty and functionality" of this time-honoured medium.
The NWU Gallery extends a warm invitation to everyone to experience this showcase of ceramic art. It looks like 2026 is starting off with a bang, or perhaps, a beautifully crafted pot.
