The Leopards finally broke their agonizing streak of close defeats, securing a breathless 48-45 victory over the high-flying Valke at Olen Park on Saturday, July 4, 2026. After falling short by single-digit margins in three consecutive matches, the Potchefstroom-based side stood firm in a chaotic, high-scoring affair to claim their first win of the Carling Currie Cup First Division campaign.

It was a rollercoaster battle from start to finish. The first half proved to be a frenetic shootout, with the Valke heading down the tunnel with a razor-thin 26-24 advantage. The East Randers brought plenty of firepower, crossing the whitewash through Ilunga Mukendi, Zeilinga Strydom, Sikho Nanto, and the dangerous Ezrick Alexander.
However, the Leopards refused to let the game slip away from them at home. The hosts responded punch-for-punch with first-half tries from Ghudian van Reenen, Daimon O'Connell, and the lethal Siniothando Tshontsyi.
The drama reached a boiling point in the second half. Naiden Jaarts, Jandre Burger, and Indiphile Tyeda scored spectacular tries for the hosts to ignite the home crowd. The Valke looked to spoil the party late in the game, setting up a highly tense finish via a try from Zander van der Merwe and a quick-fire brace from Kelvin Kanenungo.
With the match hanging on a knife-edge, Leopards hero Gcino Mdletshe broke through the defensive line to score a brilliantly converted try in the 77th minute, sealing the monumental 48-45 triumph. Flyhalf Jandre Burger enjoyed a phenomenal afternoon with the boot, adding five crucial conversions and a penalty goal to guide his side across the finish line.
