Airshow 2025
The Potchefstroom Airshow, held on Saturday, 7 June 2025, transformed the town’s airfield into a vibrant celebration of aviation and community.

Set beneath clear winter skies, the event offered a spectacular mix of aerial displays, family entertainment, and local flair. From early morning, the skies were alive with daring aerobatics, beginning with formation flying by colorful Extra 300s and vintage Pitts Specials. The Flying Lions’ Harvard trainers impressed with synchronized smoke-filled passes, while the legendary P-51D Mustang “Mustang Sally” drew loud cheers with its roaring low fly-bys. A rare dual performance between this WWII warbird and an Extra 330 stunned the crowd with its mix of historical power and modern aerobatic precision.

One of the day’s most dramatic highlights came from stunt pilot Scully Levin, who flawlessly landed a Piper Cub on a moving truck—a stunt that had the audience gasping before erupting in applause. The sleek Aero L-39 Albatros jet thrilled with high-speed low passes, while local glider pilot Oscar brought a peaceful contrast, soaring gracefully in his JS-3 sailplane with smoke trails and soft music adding to the serene moment.

Beyond the skies, the airshow doubled as a bustling community festival. Food trucks dished out everything from burgers to traditional boerewors, and families enjoyed picnic spots, face painting, and a toddler play area. Vendor tents featured pilot training info, aircraft displays, and aviation merchandise. A charity stall, craft vendors, and promotional giveaways added to the festive atmosphere.
As the sun set, the event’s perfect balance of adrenaline and relaxation left lasting impressions. Social media buzzed with videos of Mustang Sally and Levin’s iconic landing, capturing the spirit of a day filled with wonder, heritage, and togetherness.
The 2025 Potchefstroom Airshow proved to be more than an aviation event—it was a joyful community experience, blending high-flying thrills with grounded, family-friendly fun.

Promosa Electricity Woes Spark Rising Tensions in Local Communities
Communities in and around Promosa are increasingly alarmed by frequent power outages and the rise of illegal electricity connections in informal settlements. Residents, especially those near Ext 5, Rockville, Marikana, Baipei, Hillside, and Promosa Central, have voiced their frustration on social media, reporting damaged appliances, overloaded transformers, and unstable power supply caused by unsafe, unauthorized connections.

Originally a desperate measure for those lacking formal access, illegal connections have now become a source of community tension and potential conflict. Many residents feel torn between empathy for those in need and concern over the growing safety risks and lack of accountability. There are rising fears that, if left unaddressed, the situation could escalate into violence or deeper community divisions.
Social media posts reflect rising anger, with some residents blaming municipal inaction and even referencing claims that former JB Marks Mayor Gaba had condoned illegal connections during a past visit. Although municipal leaders have held meetings and promised to electrify informal areas properly, delays in implementation have only worsened the public’s frustration.
Tensions have already led to incidents of property damage, and local leaders are urging urgent intervention. The community’s call is clear: they need communication, action, and real solutions before the technical crisis becomes a deeper social one — marked by eroded trust and rising unrest.
Cleaning Up the Kasi: How Reafenya Projects & Maintenance is Transforming Ikageng
In the heart of Ikageng, a young entrepreneur is turning dust into dreams. What started as a response to local demand has now grown into a fast-rising cleaning and home services company. Meet Katlego Mota, the founder of Reafenya Projects & Maintenance (Pty) Ltd, a proudly kasi-based business making a powerful impact.

"I started my business on the 6th of December 2024," says Katlego. The idea came from seeing how many people in Ikageng needed help: “A lot of people here want their yards cleaned, but they don’t always have the time or tools. I decided to step in.” That decision became the foundation of a business built for the people, by one of their own.
Katlego’s team comes from the same streets he grew up on. “I found my team right here in my kasi,” he says. “We use trusted products like Domestos and liquid soap, and I’m still in the process of training them to keep quality high.” Katlego proudly explains what sets Reafenya Projects & Maintenance apart: “My service is the best. It’s affordable and always leaves a positive impact on my customers.” The company serves mainly residents in and around Double Skhona and continues to grow through word of mouth and trusted work.
Reafenya Projects & Maintenance offers a wide range of services, making it a one-stop solution for kasi households. “I got my first customer from a lady mo kasi at Di Loune,” Katlego recalls. But getting regular clients remains a daily mission. “I have to market my business every day. That’s part of the hustle.”

Katlego’s vision is bigger than just cleaning yards. “I want to grow and expand. I’m planning to add a fast-food restaurant and eventually build a company office so I can hire more people from my kasi.”
Above all, Katlego enjoys what he does. He believes in hard work and staying focused: “Always strive and focus on what you do.”
