Strategic Planning Lekgotla Charting Course for 2026/27 Financial Year

To kick off the month, executive leadership from Potchefstroom Hospital, along with the newly appointed Hospital Board and representatives from Organized Labour, convened for a three-day Strategic Planning Lekgotla. Held from July 1 to July 3, 2026, at the Stonehenge River Lodge in Parys, Free State, the session focused on setting the facility's operational and strategic direction ahead of the 2026/27 financial year.

The primary objectives of the Lekgotla included:

• Strategy Review: Re-evaluating the current operational strategy and shareholder compact to ensure alignment with updated directives from the North West Department of Health.

• Performance Evaluation: Reviewing overall facility performance from the previous financial year to identify gaps and operational challenges.

• Target Realignment: Adjusting key performance indicators (KPIs) to better align with broader health outcomes and regional public health objectives.

• Risk Management: Identifying prospective institutional risks and establishing sustainable mitigation strategies to guarantee consistent, high-quality care across the JB Marks municipality.

Commemorating Nelson Mandela Day Through Patient Outreach

On Wednesday, July 17, 2026, staff members from the Potchefstroom Hospital Occupational Therapy Department, Corporate Services, and the Crisis Centre joined forces with external stakeholders to honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

Ahead of the official Nelson Mandela Day on July 18, observed under the theme "It's still in our hands to combat poverty", hospital teams dedicated 67 minutes of public service to patients waiting at the facility. Staff served coffee, hot soup, cakes, and fresh bread to visiting clients and outpatients, reflecting the national spirit of community service and humanitarian support.

Former Nursing Manager Donates Woollen Beanies to NICU

In a targeted effort to assist vulnerable neonates during the winter season, former Potchefstroom Hospital Nursing Manager Maria Seleke initiated a donation drive for the facility’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Announced on Monday, July 20, 2026, Seleke, who now resides in Klerksdorp, hand-knitted woollen beanies to help premature infants maintain essential body warmth. The ongoing initiative aims to provide every admitted premature infant in the NICU with a personalized beanie to support their clinical care and recovery.

"I had the privilege of working at Potchefstroom Hospital and meeting these tiny miracles who came through the doors of the NICU," stated Seleke regarding the effort. "Their fighting spirit inspired me to reach out and make a difference."

Through strategic realignment, public engagement, and specialized patient support, Potchefstroom Hospital continues to address both administrative standards and direct patient care needs within the North West Province.
