If you’re someone who spends most of their day surrounded by tiny humans, wiping noses, answering 478 questions before 9am, and wondering what exactly "messy play" is, then mark your calendar for 2 August 2025. The Nanny Movement, helmed by the energetic and people-loving Chirisma Allem, is hosting a one-day Preschool Assistant Workshop in Potchefstroom.
What’s Going Down on the Day
Running from 09:00 to 16:00, this full-day session covers a broad set of topics aimed at both new and experienced assistants, nannies, and caregivers working with preschool children. And nope, it’s not just arts and crafts.
Topics include:
What makes a good preschool assistant (besides saint-like patience)
Confidentiality (because what happens at playtime stays at playtime)
Duties, skills, and how not to get buried under all the hats you wear
Time management, always a crowd favourite
Personal hygiene and health (for both you and the little ones)
Professionalism (yes, even with glitter in your hair)
The low-down on messy and sensory play (spoiler: it's not just mud pies)
Toilet training (because someone has to talk about it)
Speech and language development
Self-regulation and emotional skills (and not just the kids’)
And, of course, the ever-important "serve and return" interaction, that back-and-forth chat that turns babble into brilliance.
Who’s Chirisma, Anyway?
Chirisma Allem isn’t just someone who read a few parenting blogs and decided to run a workshop. She’s a foundation phase teacher with an honours degree in Learning Support. She’s also a stay-at-home mum to two young kids, which basically qualifies her as an Olympic-level multitasker. Chirisma’s got a soft spot for both people and children, and becoming a mum gave her a new perspective on just how vital and delicate early childhood care really is.
Booking Details and How to Get In
The workshop costs R700 per person, which includes the full-day session and a chance to get hands-on with practical knowledge that’ll actually help when a toddler decides to scream-sing "Let It Go" for the 90th time. Booking is live on The Nanny Movement’s website
So, if you’re working with kids and want to do it better (or at least survive it with some extra tools in your belt), this could be well worth your Saturday. Just remember to pack a notebook... and maybe a spare shirt.
