Pro-Potch Gets Dirty - to Clean Up: Pre-Clash Clean-Up, Recycle and E-Waste Week 2025 -19 May - 23 May

With the Gimmie - Volkie Derby around the corner, the streets of Potchefstroom are about to get a proper spring clean—well, more like an autumn one. From 19–23 May 2025, the Potchefstroom Chamber of Commerce, PRO-POTCH, and Clean-Up Together JB Marks are rallying the troops for the #ProPotch Pre-Clash Clean-Up, E-waste, and Recycle Week.

The Clean-Up Briefing

Forget your average community tidy-up. The goal this time is ambitious: 3,000 bags of litter. That’s not just picking up after yourself, that’s picking up after half the town. Businesses, schools, families, churches, your gran, everyone’s invited to grab a bin bag and get cracking.

And if you’re feeling left out, don’t worry. There's a second clean-up already planned for 29 September – 3 October 2025, conveniently aligned with Aardklop.

Where to Start?

You can choose your own adventure-err, area, to clean. Got a favourite dodgy-looking intersection or messy pavement near your work, flat or hangout spot? Clean that up. It all counts.

To get involved, you can collect free garbage bags from any of these helpful spots:

• Feisty Communications, 33 Klinkenberg Street

• Entrutech, 13 Palmiet Street

• Engen Mooirivier Junction

• Engen Bult Garage

And once you're done scrubbing your corner of the city, take those before-and-after pics and post them with the hashtag #ProPotchCleanUp. Flex your cleanup game.

What About E-Waste?

Still hoarding that dead printer from varsity? Maybe a drawer full of prehistoric Nokias? Now’s the time to let go. Entrutech at 13 Palmiet Street is accepting electronic waste. Some devices will be repurposed and donated, others recycled. No judgement.

Who’s Pitching In?

A bunch of companies have already pledged to take charge of cleaning up specific entry points into Potch. But there’s still room for more. Whether you're a business, a resident, or just someone with a conscience, you’re encouraged to tidy up wherever you live, work or loiter.
