An evening of wine, wildlife, and war stories from the bush
There are plenty of good reasons to crack open a bottle of wine on a Friday evening. But on 13 June 2025, you can do it for a cause that actually makes a difference, and we’re not talking about rescuing your sanity after a long week. The SANParks Honorary Rangers of the Bankenveld Region are inviting you to join them for a night of conservation, coffee, chocolate, and courage at the beautiful Lekwena Wildlife Estate just outside Potch.
What’s Happening and Where
The event, titled Raise a Glass to Conservation, will be hosted at the Lekwena Plaaskombuis, a charming venue nestled within the Lekwena Wildlife Estate, which spans over 3000 hectares of prime bushveld. Doors open at 17:30, with the festivities kicking off at 18:00. Tickets go for R250 a pop, not bad considering what’s on offer.
Wine, Coffee, and Chocolate – With a Side of Purpose
This isn’t your average cheese-and-wine shindig. Guests will get to sample Rhino Tears wine, sip on Crater Coffees, and indulge in artisanal chocolates, all while hearing gripping conservation stories straight from those who’ve been on the frontlines protecting South Africa’s wildlife. It’s a laid-back evening with a serious mission: raising funds for anti-poaching efforts.
And let’s be honest, wine tastes better when it’s saving rhinos.
More Than Just a Party
The event is hosted by the SANParks Honorary Rangers, a volunteer group that gives their time, skills, and resources to support South African National Parks. They’re not in it for the glory (or the wine, for that matter). Every rand raised goes toward boots-on-the-ground projects, like anti-poaching patrols, ranger training, and supporting conservation infrastructure.
About the Venue
Lekwena Wildlife Estate isn’t just a pretty face. With a mix of bushveld, savannah, wetlands and rocky outcrops, it’s one of the North West’s top spots for game ranching and wildlife viewing. It’s also home to families who’ve chosen to live with giraffes as neighbours and wildebeest as lawn ornaments. Not a bad place to toast to nature, really.
