A Community Event with Roots
Potchefstroom residents are being called to roll up their sleeves and dig in for the Rooting for Potch Annual Tree Planting Day. The event takes place on 4 October 2025 at 09:00 in Cachet Park, Die Bult, and promises a practical way to leave a leafy legacy.
The initiative is hosted by SML4Change, who are inviting anyone with a spade, a sense of humour, and maybe a tree or two to join in.
How It Works
Participants have two options:
Sponsor a tree for R350.00. This includes the tree, fertiliser, use of a water cart, base protection pipes, and the guidance of a planting team.
Bring your own indigenous tree for R100.00, which covers the same planting support and supplies, minus the tree itself.
Those who cannot attend in person are still encouraged to sponsor a tree. The organisers will plant it on their behalf, ensuring no good intention goes to waste.
Registration and Details
Registration is required and can be done by completing a simple form. Sponsors will receive an invoice via email once their details are submitted. For smooth communication, participants will also be added to a WhatsApp group set up for the event.

Why Trees?
Besides the obvious shade and occasional bird accommodation, trees provide something a bit more essential: oxygen. A single tree can produce enough oxygen for two people for a whole year. In other words, planting one makes you a lifesaver without the hassle of medical school.
Rooting for Potch is more than just planting trees. It is about growing a greener space together. As the organisers put it: “Growing ourselves, our town, our world.”
