Year-end staff functions are usually characterized by speeches, good food, and a collective sigh of relief as the academic year winds down. However, Potchefstroom High School for Boys decided to end 2025 by doing what educators do best: planting seeds for the future.

In a touching ceremony that combined celebration with sustainability, the school’s staff function was elevated through a meaningful partnership with the Rotary Club of Potchefstroom Mooi.
A Symbol of Growth
Thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary Club, staff members were given the opportunity to plant trees on the school grounds. The school described this gesture as a powerful symbol of "growth, sustainability, and the lasting impact of strong community partnerships."
There is a poetic symmetry to the event: Just as teachers spend their days nurturing young minds to grow into strong men, they have now planted trees that will offer shade and beauty to future generations of "College" boys.
Strengthening Community Ties
The event was not just about nature; it was about people. It served as a moment of gratitude for the staff's dedication throughout a demanding school year.
"Each tree planted serves as a living reminder of appreciation for the dedication and hard work of our staff," the school noted in a statement.
The collaboration highlights the vital role that service organizations like Rotary play in our local schools. By supporting the staff, they are indirectly supporting the learners.
As the staff of Potch Boys High head off for a well-deserved break, they leave behind a physical legacy that will keep growing while they rest.
Well done to Potch Boys High and the Rotary Club of Potchefstroom Mooi for ending the year on such a constructive note.
