The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the North West province has issued an official media statement confirming that taxi operations will proceed normally today, Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
The statement addresses public uncertainty surrounding scheduled nationwide marches and demonstrations directed against illegal immigration in South Africa.

Commitment to Commuters
Despite the anticipated demonstrations, SANTACO has assured the public and regional stakeholders that essential public transport services will not be disrupted. The council emphasized its commitment to keeping the economy moving, stating that operations will continue as usual across the country so commuters can safely reach work, school, and other daily commitments.
Balacing Democratic Rights and Economic Survival
Signed by the Provincial Secretary, Mr. S.D. Mayekani, the statement maintains a neutral stance regarding the core grievances of the marchers. It highlights a dual perspective on the day's events:
Respect for Protest Rights: SANTACO acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to peacefully assemble, protest, and submit memorandums to the government.
Call for Mutual Respect: The council appealed directly to demonstration participants to respect the rights of taxi operators and drivers.
"As businesspeople, our livelihood depends on our ability to transport passengers safely and efficiently," the statement reads, urging marchers to conduct their activities without blocking traffic or interfering with daily transport operations.

Ultimately, SANTACO expressed optimism that the planned demonstrations would remain peaceful and responsible, ensuring that local business operations continue to flourish without impacting the millions of South Africans who rely on public transport daily.
