If the thought of socialising makes you want to fake a phone call, but you still enjoy the idea of being around others who also enjoy a good book (without needing to chat about it), then the Silent Book Club might be your new happy place.
What’s the Vibe?
The Potchefstroom chapter of the Silent Book Club meets again on Saturday, 14 June, hosted at the always-welcoming Blank Canvas Café, located at 72 Thabo Mbeki Way, NWU Campus, Gate 6, right by Biokinetics in the Bult area. This isn't your average book club, there are no assigned readings, no discussion guides, and definitely no awkward icebreakers.
It kicks off at 13:00, when book lovers can arrive and settle, translation: find a comfy seat, grab something warm and tasty, and ease into the vibe.
From 13:30, it’s all about silent reading time. Bring your current read (or that craft project you've been ignoring), switch off the notifications, and simply enjoy some uninterrupted peace. Just you and your book. No distractions.
At 14:30, those who feel like it can meet and mingle. Recommend a read, talk about your bookish hot takes, or just sip your coffee and nod politely at the other humans. Or don’t, no pressure. You can sneak out the back if that’s more your speed.

Soup, Vetkoekies, and Brownies, Oh My!
For those who like their books with a side of comfort food, Blank Canvas Café is offering a Book Lover’s Special: a hearty biltong soup, fluffy vetkoekies, and a brownie for dessert, all for R100. Yes, you read that right.
Pre-orders are a must, don’t rock up expecting soup and leave with only regret. And don’t forget to tip your waiter; they’re the quiet MVPs of the event.
