After taking a short break in October, Silent Book Club Potchefstroom is back, books in hand, coffee at the ready, and absolutely no talking required.
A Quiet Comeback
The November edition happens on Saturday, 15 November 2025 at 13:00, hosted at Blank Canvas Café, located at 72 Thabo Mbeki Way, right by the NWU campus, Gate 6. The café is known for its relaxed vibe, making it an ideal spot to read in peace, or at least try to before the smell of coffee and baked goods becomes too distracting.
What to Expect
Unlike traditional book clubs, there’s no assigned reading, no discussions, and no deadlines. Readers simply show up, find a comfortable spot, and read whatever they like. It’s the kind of club that rewards introverts and caffeine lovers alike.
Everyone’s welcome, whether you’re halfway through a novel, starting a self-help book (again), or pretending to read while eavesdropping on the espresso machine.
The Honesty Library
This month also features the Honesty Library, a bring-a-book, take-a-book corner running in collaboration with the second-hand bookshop in Baillie Park. There are no sign-ups, no due dates, and no guilt trips for not returning a book, just a bit of trust and the quiet joy of passing on a story.
A Community Built on Coffee and Quiet
The concept might sound simple, but there’s something refreshingly communal about a group of people sitting together in silence, all lost in their own worlds. As organisers put it, it’s about “trust, sharing, and stories passed from one reader to the next.”
So if the idea of socialising without small talk appeals to you, this might just be your kind of Saturday plan. Bring your book, grab a cuppa, and enjoy a bit of literary peace at the Silent Book Club Potchefstroom.
