Silent Book Club Returns to Potch with Books, Brews and a Bit of Charades - 16 August

The Silent Book Club Potchefstroom is making a comeback, and it’s bringing along more than just reading glasses and flat whites. On Saturday, 16 August 2025, locals are invited to gather at Cuppa Caffe Coffee Shop for an afternoon where the silence is golden, until someone starts acting like Mr Darcy or Katniss Everdeen, that is.

📍 The Venue: Cuppa Caffe Coffee Shop

Located at 51 Beyers Naudé Avenue, this comfy café will once again play host to the Potch chapter of the global Silent Book Club. Think shelves of second-hand books, a cup of whatever keeps your eyes open, and no pressure to make awkward small talk. Unless you want to, obviously.

🕐 The Time: 13:00 Sharp

There’s no RSVP required. No entry fee either. Just show up with your current read and a willingness to be mildly social if the mood strikes. The event kicks off at 1PM, and you’re free to come as you are, bookworms, caffeine addicts, and introverts all welcome.

🎭 Character Charades (Yes, Really)

This time round, the bookish crowd can flex more than just their quiet reading muscles. Character Charades is on the cards, so you’ll need to bring a pencil, take a paper, and be ready to guess or act out who’s who from your favourite reads. Don’t panic, there’s no Oscar nomination involved, just some low-stakes literary fun.

📖 Honesty Library: Take a Book, Leave a Book

In collaboration with the second-hand bookshop in Baillie Park, the Honesty Library will be in full swing. Bring a book, take a book, and hope no one nabs the one you’ve been eyeing all week. There are no due dates, no checkouts and no judgment, only a shared love of stories moving from one reader to the next.

💬 No Sign-Up, No Fuss

True to the spirit of the Silent Book Club, there's no registration or official list. It’s more of a "rock up and read" vibe. Stay for an hour, stay for three. Read, sip, chat, or sit in comfortable silence. It's your Saturday.
