In February 2025, the residence formerly known as Dennedorp was officially renamed Siya Kolisi Residence. This change reflects an ongoing commitment to providing a dedicated living environment for NWU Potchefstroom rugby players and sport students. Siya Kolisi Residence aims to combine structured accommodation with access to academic and athletic support, ensuring residents can manage training demands alongside their studies and broader campus life.

Location & Overview
Siya Kolisi Residence is located within convenient reach of key sports facilities and academic buildings on the Potchefstroom campus. Its proximity to the rugby fields and training centres reduces travel time for early-morning sessions and allows residents to balance rest, study, and training more efficiently. The residence comprises four blocks, each designed to offer private living spaces alongside shared communal areas. The arrangement fosters peer support among rugby athletes, while maintaining an environment conducive to academic focus.
Accommodation Details
Room Configuration
Blocks and Private Rooms: The residence consists of four blocks, each containing 25 single rooms. Each room provides a personal study-and-rest area with basic furnishings (desk, bed, storage) and sufficient natural light.
Privacy and Focus: Single-room occupancy ensures that residents have a private space for rest and individual study, which supports both recovery from physical training and preparation for coursework.
Communal Facilities
Bathrooms: Each block includes two bathroom areas shared by residents in that block. The design allows for multiple shower stalls and separate toilet cubicles to accommodate busy schedules.
Communal Kitchen: A shared kitchen in each block offers basic cooking and food-storage facilities (sink, countertop, cupboards, fridge/freezer space). This supports meal preparation aimed at nutritional needs for athletes.
Laundry Area: Inside each block is a washing room equipped with a basin, a washing machine, and a tumble dryer. Guidelines for scheduling laundry use help avoid conflicts and ensure efficient use of the facilities.
Common Areas: In addition to kitchen and laundry, blocks may include small lounges or study nooks where residents can collaborate on assignments, hold informal team discussions, or relax in small groups.

Living Environment
Private rooms combined with shared facilities create an environment where residents can support one another in maintaining training routines, study habits, and general well-being. Established quiet or study hours help protect periods for rest and academic work, particularly during examination periods. At the same time, communal spaces facilitate informal gatherings, study groups, and team meetings, fostering a sense of community without compromising focus.
Admission Criteria & Process
Eligibility Requirements
Academic Performance: Applicants must meet defined academic standards (e.g., minimum GPA or equivalent benchmarks) to ensure they can manage both study and sport responsibilities.

Evaluation: The residence committee, in coordination with the sports department, reviews applications against the academic and athletic criteria and assesses fit in terms of willingness to engage in residence activities.
Interview or Discussion: Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a brief meeting with residence officers and sports staff to discuss expectations and confirm mutual suitability.
Offer and Move-In: Successful applicants receive notification outlining residence rules, move-in details, and orientation schedules.
