On Saturday, 20 September 2025, from 10:00 to 13:00, The Hair Academy of South Africa (THASA) in Potchefstroom will throw open its doors, welcome mats, and presumably a few bottles of hair spray. The address is 2 MC Roode Avenue, and if you want a seat (or at least a decent spot near the coffee), you’ll need to book by calling 072-258-5146 or emailing lecturer@thasa.org.za.
There’s also a R5000 discount on 2026 course fees if you sign up before the end of October, which is enough to pay for quite a few hairbrushes.
More Than Just Combs and Scissors
THASA isn’t just a room full of mirrors. It’s a training ground for people who want to make a career out of cutting, colouring, and generally making hair look fabulous. Based on the grounds of the Technical High School, it’s close to shops and hangouts, so students can slip between class and coffee without breaking a sweat.
If you’re worried about where to stay, the academy has deals with local accommodation providers. The result: affordable, safe places to live within walking distance, handy when you’ve just had your hair done and don’t want to mess it up in the wind.
The Game Plan
THASA’s vision is to lead the way in hairdressing education, giving students the tools, training, and industry exposure they need. This includes everything from competitions and product demos to watching professional platform artists in action.
Their mission is all about practical skills. Expect to get your hands on real tools, real hair, and real clients, not just mannequin heads that don’t complain if you mess up.
Tools of the Trade
Training takes place in spacious, air-conditioned classrooms for theory, complete with projectors. The on-site salon is stocked with industry-standard equipment so students can practise their craft in conditions that feel like the real world, just with a few more helpful tips from the lecturers.
