The pinnacle of international rugby sevens reaches its climax with the 2026 HSBC SVNS World Championship. Departing from the traditional cumulative point system, this new format introduces a high-stakes, three-event shootout to determine the ultimate world champions. Between April and June 2026, the elite sevens circuit will descend upon three iconic cities, Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux, for a winner-takes-all series that defines the "World Champion" title and determines which programs secure professional core status for the 2027 season.

The Global Tour: Three Stages, One Title
The championship series is strategically spread across three distinct venues, each offering a unique atmosphere and technical challenge for the athletes.
Hong Kong: The Spiritual Home (April 17–19, 2026) Marking its 50th anniversary, the Hong Kong Sevens moves to the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Sports Park. This inaugural leg at the 50,000-seat stadium will feature a retractable roof and an advanced in-stadium cooling system to ensure peak performance in the local humidity.
Valladolid: The Iberian Debut (May 29–31, 2026) The series makes history at the Estadio José Zorrilla in Spain. Known for its intense rugby culture, Valladolid will host the second leg, where 27,000 fans are expected to create a "pressure cooker" environment for the mid-series matches.
Bordeaux: The Grand Finale (June 5–7, 2026) The world champion will be crowned at the Stade Atlantique in France. This 42,115-seat venue is one of the most technologically advanced in Europe, providing a grand stage for the season-ending trophy presentation.
The Participants: Elite 12 and the Challenger Surge
The competition brings together 12 teams per gender, consisting of the top 8 "core" teams from the regular season and 4 "Challenger" qualifiers who earned their spot through the SVNS 2 series.

Women’s Division Pools (Hong Kong)
Pool A: New Zealand (NZL), Fiji (FIJ), Japan (JPN), and Brazil (BRA). Brazil enters as a major underdog after a dramatic last-minute qualification.
Pool B: Australia (AUS), Canada (CAN), Great Britain (GBR), and South Africa (RSA) [Image 4].
Pool C: USA, France (FRA), Argentina (ARG), and Spain (ESP) [Image 4].
Men’s Division Pools (Hong Kong)
Pool A: South Africa (RSA), Argentina (ARG), Spain (ESP), and Uruguay (URU) [Image 5].
Pool B: Fiji (FIJ), France (FRA), Great Britain (GBR), and Germany (GER). Germany makes a historic debut at this level of the championship.
Pool C: Australia (AUS), New Zealand (NZL), USA, and Kenya (KEN). This is widely regarded as the "Pool of Death," featuring four teams with legitimate title ambitions.

The High-Stakes Format: World Champions and Core Survival
The World Championship series resets the regular-season ladder to zero. The team with the highest cumulative points across these three events in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux will be crowned the 2026 World Champion.
However, the stakes extend beyond the trophy. The World Championship serves as the definitive promotion and relegation mechanism. Only the teams that finish in the top eight of the cumulative standings after the Bordeaux finale will secure "Core Status" for the 2027 season. The bottom four teams will face relegation to the second tier, making every pool match critical for the financial and professional future of each national program.

Beyond the Pitch: The "Sportainment" Experience
The 2026 Championship is designed as a city-wide festival. In Hong Kong, the 50th-anniversary celebrations include a dedicated "Fan Village" at Kai Tak, featuring over 20 DJs and live performances. The entertainment lineup for the opening leg includes:
Friday: K-pop party featuring Korean girl group PRIMROSE and Gwyn Dorado.
Saturday: European party band Vengaboys headlining the afternoon sessions.
Sunday: A live sing-along spectacular with the Hindley Street Country Club.
In Europe, the "festivalization" continues with integrated fan zones in Valladolid and Bordeaux, featuring local gastronomy, interactive rugby workshops, and costume-themed party stands, ensuring the SVNS remains the biggest sports party in the world.
