From school inspiration to sport, waffles and steak, local soccer derbies, community upliftment, and even a dash of sweet factory fun, Week 38 was jam-packed with stories that made us proud to call Potch and Ikageng home. Let’s dive into what made this week so special.

StroomStories 19 September - StroomStories: Oaktober Family Fun Run
In the studio, we had the vibrant Oaktober Family Fun Run organisers, who gave us a sneak peek of the upcoming event on 18 October 2025. With a fun walk, dress-up competitions, and a candy hunt for kids, this promises to be an unforgettable morning for families. And with tickets priced from just R20, it’s accessible fun for all. SportStroom 17 September – SportStroom: Volkies Spinathon
Our SportStroom episode featured Franco du Preez, Marketing Manager of Volkies, and Suzanne de Swardt, Regional Organiser of Helpende Hand. They gave us a closer look at the annual Volkies Spinathon, a high-energy cycling fundraiser where every pedal stroke supports learners in our community. Sport and service rolled into one, Potch at its best.

SkoolKompas 15 September – Mienke Storm We started the week on an inspiring note with Mienke Storm, a young artist who, despite living with a serious heart condition, has blossomed creatively. Guided by her 87-year-old art teacher, she discovered painting as an outlet and even managed to sell her very first artworks. Her story reminded us that passion always finds a way, no matter the obstacles. A true role model for young creatives in Potch. Ikageng 16 September – After-School Inspiration
In Ikageng, we joined the team at Guru’s After-School Program, a powerful initiative giving learners from Grade R to Grade 9 the tools to succeed academically and socially. Founder Bongani shared how the program boosts confidence, raises marks, and shapes young minds for a better future. This wasn’t just an interview; it was a reminder of how much one person’s vision can change a community. 17 September – Ikageng Soccer League: Boitshoko vs Tlokwe
Back on the pitch, the Ikageng School League delivered drama:
U15: Boitshoko High 3 – 1 Tlokwe High (Boitumelo netted a stunning hat-trick)
U19: Boitshoko High 0 – 2 Tlokwe High (Tlokwe bounced back strong \)
Two games, two completely different stories, proving once again that school soccer in Ikageng is as thrilling as any pro league. 18 September – Ikageng Soccer Drama
Derby day in Ikageng did not disappoint! The matches were intense, the fans were loud, and the rivalry was fierce:
U15: Boitshoko 2 – 2 Botoka
U17: Boitshoko 1 – 1 Botoka
Both games ended in stalemates, but the passion on the pitch spoke volumes. If this is a glimpse into the future, Ikageng football is burning brighter than ever. 20 September – Prodigy Super Cup 2025
Saturday brought one of the biggest youth sporting highlights of the year, the Prodigy Super Cup 2025 at Olen Park Stadium. With divisions across U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17, the talent on display was incredible.
Special guests Victor Hlongwane and Fabian McCarthy added star power, inspiring the next generation of players. The atmosphere was electric, proving once again that Ikageng is where tomorrow’s stars shine today.

Our Eyes in the Field 15 September – Mike’s Kitchen Birthday Special
Later, it was time to celebrate with a bite at Mike’s Kitchen Potchefstroom. Their birthday special turned heads: a 200g Sirloin Steak with chips & onion rings OR a Chicken Schnitzel with sides for only R79! And the cherry on top? Their brand-new kids’ area, giving families more reason to make Mike’s their go-to spot. 16 September – Flo-Tek Palm Square
Over in Palm Square, we popped in at Flo-Tek where huge specials on big brands like CAT, Kress, and Worx had locals talking. From tools to irrigation products, the deals were flying fast, and we could feel the buzz in-store as Potch residents stocked up on quality gear. 17 September – Polar Factory Shop
From cycling to sugar: we visited the Polar Factory Shop, Potch’s sweet tooth paradise. Whether it was hard candy, chocolate, Polar Ice Cream cups, or lollies, the aisles were filled with childhood nostalgia and modern indulgence. Perfect for families, parties, or just spoiling yourself midweek. 17 September – Glasfit Mobile Chip Repair
Innovation also hit the streets this week as Glasfit Potchefstroom launched Mobile Chip Repair. No more waiting around at workshops ,they’ll come straight to your home or office for quick, safe windscreen fixes. It’s convenience and care, rolled into one. 17 September – PnP Canal Crossing Specials
And yes, we checked in on Pick n Pay Canal Crossing, where fresh specials (valid until 21 September) had shoppers filling their trolleys with groceries, meat, and household staples at bargain prices. As always, Potch knows how to spot a deal! 18 September – Braai Day Prep at Build It
At Build It Potchefstroom, we found shelves stacked high with Braai Day specials from charcoal and firelighters to braai stands and accessories. With National Braai Day just around the corner (24 September), locals were already stocking up and getting ready for a weekend filled with fire, flavour, and family. 19 September – Trolley Dash
Friday meant one thing: Trolley Dash at Canal Crossing! Shoppers who spent R250 or more had the chance to sprint through the aisles, grabbing whatever they could in record time. The laughter, chaos, and community spirit made it a spectacle to remember. 19 September – Operation Compassion – Project Nehemiah
We also met with the team from Operation Compassion Potchefstroom, a nonprofit focused on real change. Through Project Nehemiah, they’re tackling potholes, creating jobs, and ensuring food security for vulnerable families. This isn’t just talk, it’s action by the community, for the community.

Looking Back at Week 38
From waffles to windshields, from after-school empowerment to soccer glory, and from fundraising spinathons to Operation Compassion’s community work, Week 38 reminded us that Potch and Ikageng are places where heart meets hustle.
