Welcome back to The Go-To Guy’s Weekly Diary! It has been an absolute whirlwind over the past two weeks, packed with community spirit, heartwarming charity events, and some genuinely exciting breakthroughs in home and automotive technology.

From the high-energy fields of local school sports to the quiet professionalism of specialized health centers, our “Our Eyes in the Field” team has been crisscrossing Potchefstroom and beyond, capturing the essence of what makes our community tick. We also celebrated Valentine’s Day by spreading a little unexpected joy to our incredible partners.
Grab a coffee, settle in, and join us as we walk through the highlights of Weeks 7 and 8 of 2026.
Our Eyes in the Field: Potchefstroom & Beyond
Our "Eyes in the Field" segment isn't just about reporting; it’s about connecting you with the experts, events, and resources that enhance our daily lives. The last two weeks saw us exploring everything from top-tier fitness facilities to the perfect Valentine’s gift.
February 9: Optimizing Performance at the NWU CHHP
We kicked off Week 7 with a visit to a facility that puts Potchefstroom on the map for sports science and wellness: the NWU Centre for Health & Human Performance (CHHP).
This is not just another gym. The CHHP is a multidisciplinary powerhouse attached to North-West University. Here, the expertise of highly qualified Biokineticists and Sport Scientists is seamlessly integrated. We were fascinated to learn how they approach health, sports performance, development, and overall well-being from multiple, complementary angles.
Having all this specialized knowledge under one roof allows the CHHP to offer a comprehensive, scientifically grounded approach that ensures the highest standard of service. Whether you are an elite athlete aiming for gold, or a community member focused on personal wellness, this center provides world-class assessment, intervention, and performance optimization.
Pro-Tip: Gym Hours (Effective Feb 2026) If you’re ready to take your health seriously, note their hours:
Monday – Thursday: 05:00 – 19:00
Friday: 05:00 – 17:00
Weekends & Public Holidays: Closed
February 10: Bazaar Fever at the Diensentrum
Tuesday was all about community and comfort food! We caught the tail end of the Diensentrum Bazaar, and the energy was fantastic. While these events are always busy, the message here was speed, they closed at 1:00 PM! Our team managed to secure some favorites:
Irresistible hot pancakes.
Hearty curry and rice.
It’s these local gatherings that remind us of the simple joys of community life in Potchefstroom.
February 11: Baking for a Cause with Paws Haven
Later that week, we focused on our four-legged friends. Paws Haven announced their very first bake sale fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day), at MooiRivier Mall.
This was such a heartwarming concept: cupcakes for the humans and special “pupcakes” for the dogs! The event also included face painting, a fun photo corner, and friendly mascots to spread the love. We caught up with the organizers, who emphasized that beyond buying sweets, the real difference is made when community members visit the shelter and take one of the dogs for a walk. We hope the event was a massive success!

February 11-12: Solutions at Flo-Tek PalmSquare & Build It
The middle of the week took us on our usual rounds of practical solutions.
Flo-Tek PalmSquare: We stopped in to see their impressive range of bathroom accessories. From designer taps and washers to SV Plumbing fittings and pipes, they have the quality you need at the right price for any plumbing or renovation project.
Build It Garden Centre: The focused here was protection. We looked at products to shield vegetable gardens from pests like snails. They also have solutions for weed control and, crucially for this time of year, fly traps! Everything for a healthy, tidy garden is in one place.
February 12: The Ultimate Practical Valentine’s Gift
Are you struggling for a last-minute Valentine's idea for the braai master in your life? We found the answer at Flo-Tek PalmSquare.
We checked out the Kaufmann range of stainless steel roosters (folding grids), available in sizes from small to large. This isn't just a gift; it’s an experience waiting to happen. Pair a rooster with firelighters and a reliable lighter, and you have the perfect practical package that will see plenty of use. It’s practical, stylish, and chosen with love (for the braai).
February 13: Local Convenience at Dismart Fochville
We took a quick trip out of town to say hello to the team at Dismart Fochville. We are always advocating for supporting local business, and Dismart makes it easy.
To stay on top of their latest specials and news, they encourage locals to join their specialized WhatsApp group (a smart move in 2026). They are conveniently open seven days a week, making local shopping fast and easy.
February 16: Building it Safely and Efficiently
Monday of Week 8 was dedicated to safety and efficiency at Build It.
Safety Wear: Working professionally means working safely. We explored their comprehensive range of essential safety gear, including:
Welding gloves
Safety boots
Vests
Uniforms
DIY Breakthroughs: Later, we highlighted a few things you might not realize you can get easily at Build It:
Curtain Rails: You can buy them yourself for that quick room upgrade.
Garden Essentials: We took a walk through the shelves and found everything from pruning shears, shovels, and rakes to garden hoses and even pool salt, all under one roof.
February 16: The Future of Lawn Care Has Arrived at Flo-Tek
Perhaps the most exciting tech announcement of the last two weeks came from Flo-Tek PalmSquare: The arrival of the new WORX Landroid Vision AI lawnmower!
If you’ve been putting off buying a robotic mower because you dread burying boundary wires, this machine changes everything. The Worx Landroid Vision uses an HDR camera and advanced AI technology (with a built-in neural network) to identify grass, navigate intelligently, and make real-time decisions.
It automatically avoids obstacles like pets, people, and toys, and even cuts neatly right up to the very edge. This is smart lawn care perfected. You can order yours now at Flo-Tek.
February 19: A Full Tour of NTT Nissan
Thursday saw us exploring the automotive world at NTT Nissan Potchefstroom. We took a comprehensive walkthrough to show you everything they offer. It’s truly a one-stop automotive hub:
The latest new Nissan models.
Reliable, quality used cars.
A professional, state-of-the-art service department.

We wrapped up the week celebrating local athletic prowess.
February 20:
Energy levels were through the roof at Hoërskool Lichtenburg for the 2026 Northwest Interschools Athletics. It was a spectacular day of speed, power, and overwhelming school pride.
February 21: The excitement continued with Potchefstroom Club Rugby. Our local Potch Dorp 1st and 2nd teams took on the Meyerton Knights. Local rugby is always a highlight of the weekend!

Ikageng: Arts, Ambition, and Belly Dancing
Over in Ikageng, our team focused on the vibrant arts and cultural scene that continues to thrive in our community.
February 10: G.O.A.T. Talk with Cozzy Osmin
We sat down with the one and only Cozzy Osmin, the self-proclaimed G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) of the Sarafina hip hop scene.
Cozzy shared his journey with us, detailing the struggles he has overcome and the passion that drives him. He also discussed his recent nomination for Best Hip Hop Artist at the Mzanzi Arts and Media Awards,a major milestone that speaks volumes about his impact on the local scene. Big ups to Cozzy!

Spreading Love: The Go-To Guy Valentine’s Special
Friday, February 13, was a particularly special day for us at The Go-To Guy. We decided to celebrate Valentine’s a little early by heading out and about in Potchefstroom to deliver some treats!
We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to work with such amazing people and businesses in this community. Delivering these small tokens of our appreciation was our way of saying thank you for your continued support. We hope you enjoyed the treats as much as we enjoyed working with you!
That wraps up our massive double-diary update! It has been an action-packed two weeks, proving once again that Potchefstroom is a community that moves forward.
