The Potch Local Market is happening on Saturday, 1 November 2025, at the Potchefstroom Islamic Academy, 73 Smit Street. It’s a free-entry event running from 12pm to 5pm, and it’s all about the community, by the community, for the community.
A Market with a Local Heart
This isn’t one of those polished, corporate-type markets with imported everything. This is local through and through. Expect home-baked treats, handmade gifts, modest fashion, sauces, dips, juice bars, and even the occasional surprise stall that somehow ends up selling something you never knew you needed.
Among the vendors are Tasty Treats, Graphics & Gifts by Amara, Layali by R, Lilli’s Littles and Soaps, The Great EsCake, SMR Trendy Trade, Naaz Sauces & Dips, IndiCo by Saleha, The Juice Bar, and a few others that’ll likely rope you in for a “just a quick look”. Spoiler: it won’t be quick.
A Gathering, Not a Gala
It’s all happening under the roof (and hopefully under fair weather) of the Potchefstroom Islamic Academy, which is fast becoming a friendly landmark for community get-togethers. The organisers say it’s meant to be a warm, welcoming space for everyone, the kind of place where you come to browse, chat, and inevitably leave with something homemade and delicious in hand.
Bring your family, your friends, and possibly your stretchy pants. There’ll be baked goods, craft creations, and enough local charm to make you wonder why this hasn’t been happening all along.
