The Big Brush Off Begins
The 2025 edition of the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition is here, and the search for fresh artistic voices has officially begun! Entries are now open, so if you’re an emerging artist from the North-West province with something to say (and no solo show yet, academic gigs don’t count), it’s time to show your stuff.
What’s the Deal?
In case you’re new to the scene, this is no fly-by-night affair. Sasol New Signatures is South Africa’s top spot for up-and-coming visual artists to make their mark, and it’s been going strong for 35 years now, thanks to Sasol’s long-standing sponsorship.
Artists of all stripes (or squiggles) are encouraged to enter, paintings, sculptures, photography, video, installation pieces, you name it. There are no limits to the type of work you can put forward, as long as it fits within the size and weight guidelines (check out the entry form for the nitty-gritty details).
When and Where?
For those keen to get involved, here’s the scoop:
Dates: Tuesday, 10 June and Wednesday, 11 June 2025
Time: 10:00 to 16:00
Venue: Potchefstroom Museum, at the corner of Gouws and Wolmarans Streets.
That’s your window to bring your artwork to life, and to the judges!
What’s in it for You?
The prizes up for grabs should get those creative juices flowing. First prize includes a tidy R100,000 plus a solo exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum in 2026, a dream come true for any aspiring artist. If you’re the runner-up, you’ll pocket R25,000, while five merit award winners will each walk away with R10,000.
So, to all those budding artists out there: if you’re ready to jump in, the paint’s drying and the entry window’s calling. Don’t let that brush gather dust!
