Welcome back to another bumper edition of The Go-To Guy Weekly Diary. As we transition from the heat of February into the first rustlings of March, the energy in Potchefstroom and Ikageng has shifted from the "back-to-school" bustle to a deep sense of community building.

Over the past two weeks (Weeks 9 and 10), our team has been everywhere. We’ve been deep in the warehouses of our favorite DIY giants, standing in the dust of historic agricultural festivals, and sitting down with community leaders to talk about the future of the place we call home.
Grab a seat and catch up on everything you might have missed.
Our Eyes in the Field: Potchefstroom
From infrastructure and politics to interior design and world-class hangouts, the Potch beat has been busier than ever.
February 24: Deep in the Build it Warehouse
We kicked off the end of February by going "behind the scenes" at Build it. While the front of the store is great for quick pickups, the real magic happens in the warehouse. We took a walkthrough to show you exactly what is waiting for your next big project.
It’s truly a one-stop destination. Whether you are looking for geysers, security gates, heavy-duty doors, or sleek new countertops, they have it all under one roof. One of the most impressive finds was their complete water purification systems. In 2026, clean water is a priority for every household, and Build it offers both full systems and the specific replacement components you need to keep your water fresh.
February 26: A Historic First at Volkies Oesdag
History was made this week! The Go-To Guy was on the scene for Volkies Landbou’s very first "Oesdag" (Harvest Day).
Potchefstroom has a deep agricultural heartbeat, and seeing the community come together for this event was special. Since our studio is currently closed, we brought the "StroomStories" vibe right to the farm! It wasn’t just about tractors and farming equipment, though the exhibitors were world-class,it was about the atmosphere.
With delicious local food, live music, and a spirit of togetherness, this is clearly the start of a legendary tradition for the school and the town. If you missed the video on our socials, go check it out to experience the "gees" for yourself.
February 27: The Road Ahead with Prof. Theo Venter
On the final Friday of the month, we took a more serious turn. We sat down for a candid conversation with Prof. Theo Venter, the DA’s mayoral candidate for the JB Marks Local Municipality.
The focus of the discussion was his team's recent tour through the various wards of our municipality. They’ve been moving from street to street to gain first-hand knowledge of the challenges residents face.
A major point of contention remains the infrastructure, specifically the recurring sewage issues that have plagued certain properties for years. It was a professional, insightful look at what the "road ahead" might look like for our local government.
March 2: Aesthetic Upgrades at Potch Haus
Entering March, we shifted our focus to the home. If you haven't visited Potch Haus at 67 Retief Street yet, you are missing out on a local treasure trove of style.
Whether you are an interior designer looking for that one "statement piece" or a guesthouse owner looking to refresh your rooms, this is the place. We fell in love with their luxury Turkish carpets and high-end makeup stations.
The Highlights: Stylish patio sets for the autumn evenings, ergonomic office chairs, and mirrors that instantly transform a room.
Visit them: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00.
March 4: Powering Up with Ryobi at Build it
The DIY bug bit us again on Wednesday! We are excited to announce that Build it has just restocked the full Ryobi range.
For anyone looking to tackle a weekend project, this is the gold standard. We looked at the power tools (perfect for precision DIY) and the garden care range. Their lawnmowers and hedge trimmers are designed to take the "work" out of yard work, which is exactly what we need as we head into the autumn garden cleanup.
March 5: Chillmax – Your New Favorite Hangout
We wrapped up our Potch coverage with a visit to Chillmax, and the vibe here is unmatched. It’s a rare find: a place that works just as well for a morning productivity session as it does for a cozy night out.
Why we’re fans:
The Atmosphere: They’ve perfected the "home away from home" family vibe. You can sit outside in the fresh air or snag a warm spot by the fireplace.
The Perks: Fast Wi-Fi (a dream for the work-from-café crowd) and very budget-friendly prices.
The Fun: Regular live shows and new specials every single month. Visit them at 37 Retief Street , you won’t regret it!

Ikageng: Legends, Literacy, and Legacies
Our Ikageng segments over the last two weeks have been deeply rooted in the people who are building a better future for our youth.
February 26: Every Child Deserves a Story
Reading isn't just about literacy; it’s about imagination. The Go-To Guy team spent an afternoon at the Ikageng Library, and it was one of the most rewarding days of the month.
We brought stories to life for the local kids, fostering laughter and wonder. Seeing the neighborhood come together over books reminds us why we do what we do. We’re already planning the next chapter!
March 3: Local Talent, Big Vision: Meeting Morena Youngee
We had a fascinating sit-down with Mahlomola Moloi, better known to the community as Morena Youngee.
Many know him from the music scene, but he is currently making waves as a community leader through the Ba Ikageng Foundation.
The Heart of the Foundation: Morena spoke passionately about giving back to the youth.
The Big News: His football club is now officially registered under the JB Marks Local Football Association!
This is a huge step for local sports development. It isn't just about a game; it’s about building a legacy of discipline and opportunity for the next generation.
It’s been an incredible two weeks of storytelling. From the dust of the first-ever Volkies Oesdag to the modern aesthetics of Potch Haus, our community is a vibrant mix of old traditions and new visions.
Even while our studio doors are closed, our cameras are still rolling.
We want to hear from you, where should our "Eyes in the Field" head next?
