Every year on 20 May, the world pauses to celebrate World Bee Day, but this isn’t just about honey and hives. It’s a global reminder that bees, our planet’s tiny pollinators, are in serious trouble, and so are we if we don’t act.

The importance of these tiny pollinators
Bees play a critical role in our ecosystems, pollinating nearly 75% of the world’s food crops. From apples and almonds to coffee and cucumbers, much of what fills our plates depends on their tireless work. Yet, due to pesticide use, habitat loss, disease, and climate change, bee populations are declining at an alarming rate.

What's the buzz about?
World Bee Day, established by the United Nations in honour of beekeeping pioneer Anton Janša, is a call to action. It’s about raising awareness, planting pollinator-friendly gardens, reducing chemical use, and supporting sustainable agriculture. This isn’t just about saving bees, it’s about protecting biodiversity, securing our food supply, and sustaining the health of our planet.

So today, take a moment to appreciate the humble bee, and consider how you can be part of the solution. After all, when the bees thrive, so do we.
