22 August: Red Fire Index and Horse Evacuation in Stilfontein
Fire Danger – RED Status Declared:
Potchefstroom entered its first RED Fire Danger Index level for 2025, marking the highest fire risk alert according to the Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association (PFPA).🔥 No burning permits will be issued until further notice.🔥 All past burn sites must be secured and revisited.🔥 This extreme risk level calls for full cooperation from residents.
Stilfontein Veld Fire Response:

N12 Towards Klerksdorp – Accident:
A vehicle collision occurred along the N12 route heading toward Klerksdorp. Authorities responded and advised motorists to proceed with caution.
Fire Index Clarification:
The Fire Danger Index does not apply to braais at designated spots or private residences. The FDI specifically addresses veld fires and unauthorized open flames in high-risk areas.

26 August: SAPS Operation Shanela and Infant Medical Evacuation
Operation Shanela – Major Police Crackdown in NW:
Between 18 and 24 August, SAPS in North West arrested 898 suspects across multiple operations:
66 for drug possession
22 for illegal alcohol sales
111 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
27 for rape
147 for assault
41 illegal immigrants arrested under the Immigration Act
21 illegal shebeens closed
4300+ litres of liquor confiscated
R236,740 worth of illicit cigarettes and alcohol seized during joint enforcement actions in Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, and Ikageng
ROCKET HEMS Evacuation – Infant Airlifted:
After a serious accident, ROCKET HEMS landed in Potchefstroom to transport a critically injured infant to Johannesburg. The coordinated effort between ER24, Medexigence, and First Responders ensured rapid stabilization and transfer.
