The West Acres Shopping Centre will once again host its Annual Rabies Vaccination Day on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. The event will take place at the West Acres parking lot in Potchefstroom, running from 08h00 until 18h00.
Free Vaccinations for Cats and Dogs
The campaign is open to cats and dogs aged three months and older, and vaccinations will be provided at no cost. No appointments are required, but there are a few basic rules: dogs must arrive on leashes and cats must be brought in carriers or on leashes. This is as much for their safety as for everyone’s sanity, nobody wants an impromptu game of “catch the cat” in a shopping centre parking lot.
Why Rabies Vaccination Matters
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of animals and humans. It is transmitted via the saliva of infected animals, usually through bites or scratches. If left untreated, it causes severe neurological symptoms and is almost always fatal. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent the disease in animals and reduce the risk of it spreading to humans.
