As the winter chill begins to settle over Potchefstroom, the call for community warmth has never been more urgent. The Abraham Kriel Kinderhuis has launched its annual Blanket Collection, a vital initiative aimed at ensuring that every child in their care stays snug and protected during the freezing North West nights.

The Mission: 230 Blankets for 230 Children
The goal is clear but ambitious: 230 soft fleece blankets are needed to cover the children who call Abraham Kriel home. For these children, many of whom have come from backgrounds of trauma, neglect, or extreme poverty,a blanket is more than just a piece of bedding; it is a symbol of security, care, and a community that refuses to let them be forgotten.
The home is specifically looking for new or "beautifully cared for" (gently used) fleece blankets. While the organizers have provided specific size guidelines to ensure a good fit for the children’s beds, they emphasize that these are just a guide, the ultimate goal is warmth.
Where They Stand (The Numbers)
A quick look at the current "Opsomming" (Summary) shows that while the community has already shown incredible spirit, there is still a significant gap to bridge:
Size | Goal | Received | Still Needed |
125 x 150 | 104 | 71 | 33 |
130 x 170 | 96 | 50 | 46 |
With 79 blankets still needed to reach the target, every single donation counts. Whether you are a business looking to give back or a family clearing out a linen cupboard, your contribution can change a child's winter experience.

Why Abraham Kriel Kinderhuis?
Abraham Kriel Kinderhuis has been a pillar of the Potchefstroom community since 1956. They provide not just shelter, but holistic care including therapy, education, and medical support. After the challenges of the past few years, including the impact of the pandemic on their famous Liggiefees fundraiser, the home relies heavily on the "warmth" of the public to maintain their high standard of care.
"Kinders is die toekoms" (Children are the future) , and that future is brighter when it’s kept warm.
Let’s help them reach 230. If you have a spare blanket or the means to pick one up this week, please reach out to Izandri or Caro. Let’s make sure no child at Abraham Kriel feels the bite of the winter cold this year. Contact Details
