The Potchefstroom chapter of the Silent Book Club is preparing for its February gathering, and there is more than just a quiet atmosphere to look forward to this month. The club is officially turning one year old. To celebrate a full year of introverted socialising, the organisers are giving away a free book to one lucky attendee.

How the Meet-up Works
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Silent Book Club offers a reprieve from the traditional book club format. There are no assigned readings, no deadlines, and nobody will put you on the spot to dissect a classic you didn't actually finish. It is a "Bring Your Own Book" (BYOB) affair where the only real requirement is to show up and enjoy the silence.
The session includes an hour of dedicated, screen-free reading. Afterwards, attendees have the choice to stick around and socialise with fellow bibliophiles or simply keep their noses in their books. All formats are welcome, so whether you prefer a tattered paperback, an e-reader, or an audiobook, you will fit right in.
Beyond the Pages
The event is not strictly limited to reading. "Silent crafting" is also encouraged. If you have a knitting project, a sketchbook, or a journal that has been gathering dust, you are welcome to bring it along.
The gathering also features an Honesty Library, operating on a "bring a book, take a book" basis. This collaboration with the second-hand bookshop in Baillie Park allows readers to swap out their finished stories for something new.

Event Details and Birthday Giveaway
The anniversary meet-up takes place on Saturday, 21 February, starting at 1 PM. The venue is The Juke Box, located at 35 Parys Avenue in Baillie Park.
To enter the birthday giveaway, attendees just need to turn up, write their name down, and stay for the live draw. Entry to the event is free, making it an easy, low-pressure way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
