When it comes to learning a song It is important to understand the relationship between word syllables per bar and beats per bar. The syllables in the lyrics of a song are typically matched to the beats in the music. This means that Each bar of music will have a certain number of beats, and the lyrics will have a corresponding number of syllables that match those beats. For example, if a song has a 4/4 time signature, there will be four beats per bar, and the lyrics will typically have four syllables per bar. It's important to note that not all songs follow this pattern. Some songs may have irregular time signatures or use syncopation, which can result in a more complex relationship between the lyrics and the music. However, for most popular music, the syllables per bar and beats per bar will be matched in a straightforward way. Why Recognizing Chord Progressions is Important Another important aspect of learning a song is recognizing chord progressions. A chord progression is a sequence of chords that are played in a specific order. Most songs use chord progressions to create a sense of harmony and structure. By recognizing the chord progressions in a song, you can more easily play along with it or even improvise over it. One reason why recognizing chord progressions is important is that it can help you anticipate what comes next in the song. If you know the chords that typically follow each other in a particular progression, you can better predict what chords will come next. This can make it easier to play along with the song or to memorize the chord changes. In addition, recognizing chord progressions can help you develop a deeper understanding of how music works. By analyzing the chord progressions in a song, you can start to see patterns and relationships between different chords. This can help you understand how different chords create different moods and emotions in music. Conclusion In summary, when learning a song, it's important to understand the relationship between word syllables per bar and beats per bar, as well as recognizing chord progressions. By understanding these two concepts, you can more easily play along with a song, anticipate chord changes, and develop a deeper understanding of how music works. With guidance, practice and patience, you can become a skilled musician who can learn and play a wide variety of songs.

Last night on Social Media students alerted the general public of an attempted robbery on a student in Reitz street, according to the alert 4 men in a red Polo with GP plates manhandled and gun pointed a student in an attempted robbery, from the alert it seems that the incident was captured on CCTV and that the team at Mooirivier is following the incident. Previous Stabbing This incident follows on the heels that saw another student, Enrico de Swardt, being stabbed several times as he was walking home at night, with his laptop and cellphone being taken, fortunately for Enrico the stabs missed vital parts and he can count himself very "lucky" to be able to walk away from the incident, his parents naturally was shocked and expressed their blessing that at least Enrico is okay, yet it is still a traumatic experience for all. Community Efforts for Safer Bult The past few years there has been a concertred effort by the community and different stakeholders to manage the safety and securtity on the Bult, which is where many memories are made for our students and it is the hub for many of the students studying at the university, it does seem however that criminal elements have identified students as a soft target for such robberies and are using the late night and loadshedding darkness as their cover to target these students for robberies and theft. The Security Alerts Mooirivier Beskerming, that plays a crucial role in the safety of the area, recently stated that there is an increase of incidents where students are targeted, and urged students to be aware of their surroundings, travel in groups and to avoid walking alone at night as this is an open invitation to these criminals operating in the area. In a similar spirit the Cachet Park CID stated that they are immensely active in their security efforts and monitoring 200+ cameras 24/7 and doing their best to reduce crime on the Bult. However, following students who walk around throughout the night is taking up lots of their resources. Catchet Park CID operators at Mooirivier Beskerming are doing the best they can to monitor the cameras and looking out for suspicious activity. They would like to encourage their members, parents, managing agents, complex owners etc. to communicate to their students of the potential dangers of being out at night, especially when under the influence of alcohol. They too are observing an increase in crimes where students are targeted. Download Buzzer App They urged the community to download the Buzzer app to report incidents, suspicious activity or emergencies. To all Potchefstroomers the safety of our students, children and the general Bult community is close at heart, as this is where so many student memories are shaped and fondly remembered when we end up leaving Potchefstroom behind to spread our wings into our next part of life, many parents and other stakeholders want this to be the beautiful part of student life, therefore every effort and support we can provide to have a safer Bult should be supported. Some wonder what the purpose of life actually is, and suddenly realise the day they have their first child, and any subsequent children ,that they finally discovered the true meaning to life, and from that point onwards their life is all about their children, that is the beauty of becoming a parent, it is the purpose of life, the core of love and the pinnacle of caring for someone. It's a Miracle From the point of planning a child through to raisng a child is a magic process, and one that is filled with wonder, discoveries and a lot of learning, bringing life into the world is so often overlooked as one of the most wondrous and greatest miracles that exist. Moments Gone By This article today was infused by the family receiving news of a new girl that would enter the family soon, and as I listened to the young parents called Yovanka and Gerbrandt today talking about their young one estimated to enter our worlfd in early 2024, and the planning of the nursery, the discussions of that first day of having a baby in the house, their development paths, the fears and wonders that accompany such an occasion, I could not help but feeling nostalgic of the yonder years when our own children crawled around the house and placing everything conceivable in their mouths, time and decades have flown by so fast. Empty Spaces For many of us having the children out of the house brings with it that sense of having something amiss all of a sudden, even perhaps leading to empty nest syndrome, the pool is just a blob of water in the yard no longer splashing with laughter and happiness, the braai is a mere food cooking excersize and conversations across WhatsApp with the kids all over the world becomes the highlight of the day. Grandchildren Time Capsules When you get to this age, and you witness younger couples of the current generation having kids, you also realise how many of the wonderful joys of having children you missed, you were busy with life, with work, trying to carve out a place for you and your family, you missed moments you can never get back, or can you...? We believe that is the reason grandparents love their grandchildren so much, they get a second chance to relive those memories, a second chance that is filled with more wisdom, more love and in fact they relive having you all over again, getting back those missed or forgotten moments, with the luxury of giving them back to their parents after a while of fun :) Every Second Counts All we can say for sure is that becoming a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, enjoy every moment, every minute that you can, before you know it those moments will be gone and you may never experience them again. In a season marred by an increasing number of veldfires, Potchefstroom and the entire North West Province have been hit hard, experiencing extensive damage to both farmland and livestock. These fires, some of which seem to be deliberately set, pose not only an immediate threat to agriculture but also a looming danger to residential areas. Multiple Devestating Fires Over the past few weeks, multiple fires have ignited in the region, causing significant damage to farms and farmers. In Klerksdorp, an urgent call for help was made as farmers lost vast tracts of grazing land, jeopardizing their financial sustainability. In Potchefstroom, a recent fire escalated to speeds of 45 kilometers per hour. Heroic efforts by firefighters saved a large number of cattle but not before causing minor damage to the 4 Artillery military grounds. Some of the Fires Past Period 19th August 2023 - Veldfire starts in vicinity of 4th Artillery Military Base, reaching speeds of up to 45 kilometers per hour leading to significant biodiversity and veld losses 19th August 2023 - Three fires in the area of Hartbeesfontein/Klerksdorp destroys more than 9,500 hectares leaving 25 farmers with desperate need for grasing and feed for their cattle, some facing dire financial difficulty as a result. 31st July - Vredefort Dome fire destroying a range of old collecter vehicles and bodies, including a diesel tank with fuel that added considerable danger element to the fire 30th July 2023 - Veldfire on Rooipoort in the direction of Vredefort Koepel that was caused by a trailer that transporting hot ash that caught fire leaving to significant cattle losses as well as the loss of human life when the Farm Foreman died of a heart attack while in process of mercy deaths to cattle that was burned during this fire. 20th July 2023 - Vicinity of Biesies Vlei an illegal Tyre stach of about a kilometer caugh fire due to a runaway velfd fire, there were no fire breaks and no preventative measures in place. 28th June - Velfire near the Potchefstroom Sewage Work 26th June - Runaway fire started on communal land, jumped the N12 and burned into the Agricultural College Propperty of Potchefstroom Dry and Windy Conditions Fan the Flames The current dry and windy climate exacerbates the fire risk, setting the stage for potential calamities. Although firefighters have so far managed to contain the blazes, preventing them from reaching populated areas, the volatile conditions make it possible for future fires to pose an even greater risk to the residents of Potchefstroom. The windy and dry conditions could also make house fires particularly devastating. Potchefstroom Fire Fighting Association Arson is Not Climate Change Immediately when we witness devestation such as the ones caused by these fires we tend to think that these are the signs of Climate change, and whilst climate change may have an impact on the world, the fact is that most of these fires were either caused by negligence and in some cases even arson with these fires having been set deliberately, not thinking about the lives of animals and humans when starting such fires. All Heroes Do Not Wear Capes In our midst we have a number of heroes dedicating their time and effort to keep us safe from these fires, combatting fires and saving lives, very few knew about this fire the last weekend as it was raging while we were watching the Springbok game, awe salute these men and woman giving their time and expertise during these times. Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association The Role of Fire Protection Agencies The Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association (PFPA) plays a vital role in combating these fires. With three dedicated teams positioned in strategic areas, the PFPA operates under the Field and Forest Fires Act. Their main objective is proactive action to prevent field fires, as well as post-fire action. The PFPA collaborates with "Working on Fire," a private company, to deploy ground teams and air support, including helicopters and water bombers. They also cooperate closely with various state and semi-state institutions such as the SAPS, SANDF, NW University, and Rheinmetal Munitions, offering a multi-faceted approach to emergency response. Community Support and Future Outlook The community has also been lending a hand; Potchefstroom First Responders assisted with supplying water and food to firefighters over the weekend. The dire situation in Klerksdorp, where more than 9,500 hectares were destroyed affecting over 25 farmers, led to calls for financial donations, grazing land, and feed for cattle. A special weekly auction has been initiated to assist these farmers. Potchefstroom First Responders A Call to Vigilance With fires causing devastation on multiple fronts, it's more crucial than ever for residents and authorities alike to remain vigilant and prepared. The potential for disaster is palpable, and the need for proactive measures and community involvement has never been greater. A Call for Help The Hartbeesfontein/Klerksdorp area was struck by three devastating runaway veldfires over the past weekend. The tragic events that took place here can be described as nothing short of a disaster. Today, farmers in the area are still trying to make sense of this tragedy. Searches for missing livestock are ongoing, injured animals are being euthanized to relieve their suffering, and plans are being made to secure food for the surviving animals. All of this while farmers bravely try to keep themselves together and not lose hope. The Matlosana Fire Protection Association is still working to assess the exact extent of the damage as information becomes available to us. Currently, we can announce that according to estimates, more than 9,500 hectares of land in our area were burned during our largest fire of the weekend, which started in the Rietfontein area in Hartbeesfontein and eventually spread in the direction of Wolmaransstad, along the N12. More than 25 landowners in our area have been affected by this fire. Several farmers have already informed us that they have lost all their grazing land and that feed assistance will be essential for their continued existence. We urgently appeal to surrounding farmers who are in the position to do so, to please donate feed or offer to rent out their extra grazing land. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank every farmer and farm worker who was involved in combating these fires under life-threatening circumstances. Many of them, at their own expense, came from far and wide to assist their fellow men. Our thanks also go out to the Hartbeesfontein Agricultural Association and Matlosana Fire Department who assisted the farmers with firefighting vehicles. Special thanks also go to the North West Umbrella Fire Protection Association and Working on Fire for the aerial support (consisting of one spotter plane and a helicopter) that was provided to us. Lastly, we want to thank our Heavenly Father for keeping His protective hand over every person involved in the fires. It is only through His Grace that there were no loss of life or injuries. The sympathy of the Matlosana Fire Protection Association goes out to every farmer affected by this disaster. Rising from the ashes is not easy, but let's cling to the story of Job and remember that God is still there in our darkest times. Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association We control all veld and forest fires around Potchefstroom and neighboring towns. We are also primarily responsible for farm safety and all emergencies. The Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association originated from the then “Civil Protection”, which changed later to “Disaster Management”. In 2005, we integrated the Fire Protection Association into Disaster Management. We must make it clear that the PFPA does not function under the auspices of the municipal disaster management, but it is a private group of people who are in need of our fellow human beings. The Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association (PFPA ) operates under the Field and Forest Fires Act (Act 101 of 1998), which is bound by a very good constitution, constitution and a set of rules and regulations. Our main goal is proactive action to prevent field fires as well as actions during and post-active action after a field fire. North West Fire Protection Association The key operational focus of the North West Fire Protection Association is to ensure a coordinated approach to fire risk and integrated fire management practices in respect of aerial and ground operations throughout a Province, in turn ensuring local or regional FPA’s achieve common standards with regard to overall aerial and ground operations, awareness, training, fire prevention, fire suppression and fire control. The UFPA’s work closely with provincial and local government structures, as well as other fire related service providers and stakeholders to ensure achievement of best practice and effective utilization of all wildfire related resources available. Working on Fire Working on fire is an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) aimed at providing work opportunities to young men and women. The Programme resides under, and is funded by, the Department of Environmental Affairs. Participants are recruited from marginalised communities and trained in fire awareness and education, fire prevention and fire suppression skills. In addition, they are also trained in skills such as first aid, carpentry, cooking, health and safety and communications.

In Memoriam: Derek Watts, A Titan of South African Journalism South Africa has lost a media stalwart, a legendary anchor who carved a niche for himself in the realm of investigative journalism. Derek Watts, a veteran TV host and journalist, has passed away at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer. He succumbed to the illness on Tuesday, marking the end of an illustrious 35-year tenure with Carte Blanche, a show that became synonymous with his name. Born with a natural flair for storytelling and an insatiable curiosity, Watts gave voice to the voiceless and held the powerful to account. With an unyielding commitment to the truth, he transformed Carte Blanche into a beacon of journalistic integrity. A Farewell from the Hospital Bed In a pre-recorded message from his Netcare hospital bed last June, Watts gave a heartfelt farewell to his dedicated Carte Blanche audience, sharing the news of his battle with cancer. In the recording, he expressed gratitude for the support he received, saying, "Really just wanted to say to our viewers—thank you for all the love, the messages, the prayers that give us all hope. And thanks, of course, for continuing to watch Carte Blanche. I'll be back soon, have a magic week and cheers for now." An Uphill Medical Battle Watts had been diagnosed with skin cancer last year, which later metastasized to his lungs. Despite undergoing treatment, his situation was further complicated when he contracted severe sepsis this past March. The infection hindered his ongoing cancer treatment and led him to relearn how to walk, but it couldn't dampen his eternal optimism. A Final Season that Wasn't Meant to Be Watts revealed in a Sunday interview with Rapport newspaper that he had originally planned to make this year his last season on Carte Blanche. Unfortunately, he had to step away sooner to focus on his health, a decision he took despite the reassurances from M-Net that he could return when ready. His time as a presenter and anchor had reached its end, but not before leaving an indelible mark on journalism. The Man Behind the Stories Beyond his professional accolades, Watts was a man admired for his humility and resilience. After ignoring a lump under his arm for several months, it was his wife Belinda's persistent encouragement that led him to seek medical advice. He admitted, "Like so many men, I didn't listen." Favourite Moments In his storied career, Watts experienced numerous unforgettable moments. He recalled landing on the George Washington aircraft carrier and interviewing Mark Shuttleworth, the first South African to travel to space, as some of his favorite experiences. His family, who stood unwaveringly by his side throughout his medical struggles, recalls him as not just a great journalist, but a loving family man. Leaving a Legacy Derek Watts leaves behind a rich legacy. In an era where journalism constantly battles accusations of being 'fake news,' Watts was a paragon of the objective, hard-hitting reporting that could bring about change. His optimism, even in the face of overwhelming odds, serves as an inspiration to all. His departure is a tremendous loss to the media landscape, but the stories he told, the truths he uncovered, and the lives he touched will ensure that his memory continues to live on. Watts himself summarized his life's mission in one succinct statement: "There are absolutely wonderful people and journalists who ask the difficult questions without shying away." He was, undoubtedly, one of them. Have a Magic Week In his final words to his audience, Watts urged us all to have a "magic week." It's now our responsibility to honor his memory by living lives full of the kind of integrity, courage, and optimism he embodied. Rest in peace, Derek Watts. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Pretoria, South Africa - In an emotional video message, South Africa's beloved comedian and entertainer Leon Schuster assures fans that his spirit remains unbroken despite recent health scares. The 72-year-old Schuster is currently recovering from a back operation in a Pretoria hospital but has managed to keep high spirits as he cheered for the Springboks in their latest match against New Zealand's All Blacks, a game they dominated with a 35-7 win. Image Wikipedia Commons A Heartfelt Message from the Hospital Laying in his hospital bed, a robe-clad Schuster reached out to South African Rugby fans via a video posted on the 'Afrikaans is Groot' Facebook page. "I'm lying here in my hospital bed, but I feel good today because tonight this massive game is happening," he said. His message continued, urging fans to "forget about that" if they don't agree with everything Jacques Nienaber, the Springbok coach, is doing, and to focus instead on the "win factor." Schuster even took the moment to perform his new song, 'Die Bokmasjien,' further electrifying an already spirited fanbase. A Setback in Recovery, A Surge in Support Schuster had returned to the hospital after undergoing back surgery earlier this month, a medical necessity following an injury he sustained while filming his latest movie, 'Mr Bones 3: Son of Bones.' Social media was flooded with well-wishes, as news broke over the weekend about his hospitalization, indicating the level of national endearment he enjoys. Schuster's Return to the Spotlight Even before this heartfelt hospital-bed appearance, Schuster had been gradually making a return to public life. He had recently punted a delivery service, 'The Courier Guy,' in an online advertisement that had audiences laughing heartily. His hospitalization occurred the same week broadcast icon Derek Watts passed away, sparking concerns that Schuster’s health might be worse than publicly conveyed. Despite this, the comedian is reportedly on the road to recovery, with a national audience keenly following updates on his health status. A Career That Resonates Long celebrated for his audacity in approaching politically or culturally sensitive topics, Schuster's career has its roots in pranks and satire. His controversially provocative films like the 'You Must Be Joking' series, and the 'Mr. Bones' trilogy have sparked debates, but have also established him as a staple in South African popular culture. The nationwide outpouring of affection following his hospitalization is a testament to his longstanding impact on the South African psyche. While streaming services like Showmax removed six of Schuster's movies during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, his recent rise to public prominence suggests a resilience that can't be ignored. As the country collectively hopes for his quick recovery, Schuster’s recent messages suggest that even a hospital bed can’t dampen the indomitable spirit of this South African icon.
