- Succulent Sensation: How the Air Fryer Transforms Christmas Ham into a Glazed MasterpieceIn Food and Health Talk·December 19, 2023Image: The Go To Guy Creations For a festive twist in your air fryer, let's prepare a "Honey Mustard Glazed Christmas Ham." This recipe will turn a simple ham into a succulent, flavor-packed centerpiece for your holiday table, with the air fryer ensuring a perfectly cooked, caramelized finish. Honey Mustard Glazed Christmas Ham Ingredients: • Boneless ham (about 3-4 lbs, small enough to fit in your air fryer) • Honey (for natural sweetness and a beautiful glaze) • Dijon mustard (adding a tangy depth) • Brown sugar (for a hint of molasses magic) • Apple cider vinegar (to balance the sweetness) • Ground cloves (a touch of festive spice) • Ground cinnamon (for that warm, Christmas aroma) • Garlic powder (a subtle but essential flavor) • Salt and pepper (to taste) Instructions: 1. Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C). 2. Score the ham in a diamond pattern. This not only looks lovely but also allows the glaze to penetrate deeper into the meat. 3. In a bowl, mix honey, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ground cloves, cinnamon, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. This is your glaze, full of Christmas cheer. 4. Brush the ham generously with the glaze, making sure to get into the scored lines. 5. Place the ham in the air fryer basket. Cook for about 15 minutes. 6. Open the air fryer, baste the ham with more glaze, and continue cooking for another 10-15 minutes, or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C) and the glaze is caramelized and sticky. Image: The Go To Guy Creations Serve this delightful Christmas ham with sides of roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh green salad. The sweet and tangy glaze, coupled with the warm spices, makes each bite a festive celebration. - Dressing the Part: What Every Bride-to-Be Should Wear When Shopping for Wedding DressesIn Wedding, Beauty and Love Talk·December 19, 2023Image: The Go To Guy Creations Planning a wedding is a whirlwind adventure filled with excitement, love, and a seemingly never-ending checklist. But let's be honest, one of the most thrilling and iconic moments in this journey is finding the perfect wedding dress. It's the gown you've dreamt about since you were a little girl, and now, it's time to make that dream a reality. But before you step into bridal boutiques and embark on the quest for "the one," there's a little something you should know – what to wear when shopping for wedding dresses. We're here to guide you through this magical experience, making sure you not only look the part but feel like the radiant bride you are. 1. Wear Nude or Seamless Undergarments First things first, let's talk about what goes under that stunning wedding dress. Seamless nude undergarments are your best friend. They provide a clean and unobtrusive silhouette, allowing you to visualize how the dress will look on your big day. Strapless bras and shapewear can also come in handy, depending on the style of dress you're trying on. Image: The Go To Guy Creations 2. Comfortable Shoes are Key When it comes to shoes, comfort should be your top priority. Opt for a pair of neutral-colored, comfortable heels or flats. You'll be doing a lot of standing and walking during your shopping and fitting appointments, and the last thing you want is sore feet distracting you from your bridal vision. 3. Keep Makeup Light and Hair Simple Less is more when it comes to makeup and hairstyling. A fresh-faced look allows you to focus on how the dress complements your natural beauty. Bring a few makeup essentials for touch-ups, but don't go overboard. For hair, a simple updo or ponytail is perfect for trying on dresses and won't interfere with the necklines or styles you're exploring. 4. Bring a Trusted Friend or Family Member Shopping for your wedding dress is a momentous occasion, and you don't want to go it alone. Bring along a trusted friend or family member who knows your style and can offer valuable opinions and support. Their presence will make the experience even more special. Image: The Go To Guy Creations 5. Be Mindful of Your Foundation Garments Depending on the style of dress you choose, you may need specific foundation garments such as a bustier or corset. Consult with the bridal shop's experts to ensure you have the right undergarments to achieve the desired fit and silhouette. 6. Consider Accessories If you have any heirloom jewelry or accessories that you plan to wear on your wedding day, it's a good idea to bring them along. These pieces can help complete the look and give you a better sense of how everything comes together. 7. Don't Forget a Notebook and Camera Bring a notebook or use your phone to take notes on each dress you try on. Document details like the designer, style, and price, as well as how you felt in each gown. A camera is also handy for capturing photos of yourself in each dress, allowing you to review your options later. Image: The Go To Guy Creations 8. Wear Your Confidence Above all, wear your confidence and enthusiasm. Remember, this is your special day, and you are the star of the show. Approach each dress fitting with an open heart and an open mind. Trust your instincts and don't settle for anything less than the dress that makes you feel like the beautiful bride you are. Shopping for your wedding dress is an experience you'll cherish forever. With the right attire and mindset, you'll not only find the perfect dress but also enjoy every moment of the journey. So, brides-to-be, put on your best outfit and get ready to say "yes" to the dress of your dreams! - Die Piesangskille - The Rise of NWU's Musical DuoIn Performing Arts Talk·November 29, 2023Capturing Campus Life in Song Die Piesangskille, a two-piece band formed by North-West University (NWU) students Daniël Marais and Johan Balt, has made waves with their hit song "Mal Maandagaande" (Crazy Monday Nights). The music video, set against the backdrop of the Fanie du Toit Sport Grounds on the NWU’s Potchefstroom Campus, captures the essence of student life and the carefree spirit of youth. Image : Facebook Die Piesangskille The song, a humorous and slightly exaggerated take on their Monday night adventures, quickly became a hit and propelled the duo into the limelight. Origin of an Unusual Band Name The origin of their band name, Die Piesangskille (The Banana Peels), is as quirky as their music. One night, while brainstorming for a name in the communal square of their hostel, Over de Voor, they spotted a banana peel on the floor, which inspired their moniker. Daniël, from Kimberley, is pursuing a BCom degree in Business Management, while Johan, from Knysna, is studying for an LLB degree. A Tuesday Inspiration The song "Mal Maandagaande" was born from a Tuesday's reflection on a memorable Monday night of partying. Daniël explains how the song emerged from their experiences during a quiet period on campus, capturing the spontaneity and excitement of their student life. Musical Inspirations and Future Aspirations Die Piesangskille cite bands like Glaskas, éF-éL, and Die Tuindwergies as their musical inspirations. While they aim to emulate the success of these bands, Daniël emphasizes their present focus on enjoying the journey and exploring where their music will take them post-graduation. Debut Album: A Slice of Life Their debut album, "Almal Gly" (Everybody Slips), is a testament to their journey and experiences over six months. The album’s creation, a blend of fun and challenge, involved balancing recording sessions with their academic schedules. Johan credits producers Roux Cloete and Johan Viljoen for making the album a reality. Potchefstroom's Emerging Music Scene As Die Piesangskille's popularity grows, they acknowledge the unique and supportive music scene in Potchefstroom, driven by student enthusiasm. Daniël fondly refers to Potchefstroom as the "Banana Republic," appreciating the strong backing from their fellow students. Die Piesangskille's emergence on the South African music scene represents the vibrant and creative spirit of university life. Their journey from a chance meeting in a hostel square to the creation of a hit song and a successful debut album highlights the potential of student talent and the power of music to capture and celebrate the experiences of youth. As they continue to grow, Die Piesangskille stands as a symbol of youthful creativity and the rich cultural landscape of NWU's Potchefstroom campus. - Water Crisis in JB Marks Municipality Sparks Community OutrageIn News Talk·December 1, 2023Residents Frustrated Residents of the JB Marks Municipality, specifically in the Old Ikageng area, are voicing their frustrations over persistent service delivery issues, with the latest challenge being a significant disruption in their water supply. The situation escalated following a mechanical failure at the Ikageng Water Pump Station on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. Pump Failures The crisis began when Pump 2 at the station suffered damage, causing an immediate halt to water supply in the area. Although the Service Provider and Instrumentation Crew were quick to respond, starting repair works on Wednesday, 29 November, their efforts were met with further setbacks. Pump 1, while initially operational, ceased functioning by late afternoon the same day. Loadshedding Complication Compounding the issue, scheduled load shedding on 29 November further disrupted any hope of immediate restoration of normal water supply, leaving residents dependent on water tankers for their basic needs. The council, in its media release, assured residents that maintenance work would commence on 30 November at 07h00, and apologized for the inconvenience, particularly to the residents of Old Ikageng. They also provided a contact number for the JB Marks Local Municipality Disaster Management Center to request water tanker services. Questioning Council Transparency However, the community's patience is wearing thin. Residents are not only exasperated by the current water supply disruption but are also questioning the municipality's overall efficiency and transparency. One resident criticized the council's statement for lacking a clear timeline for the restoration of regular water supply, expressing skepticism about the prolonged reliance on water tankers. Another resident pointed out the irony of scheduled load shedding during crucial repair works. Allegations from Community Moreover, the water crisis in the extensions, ongoing for over five months, has sparked allegations of corruption. Community members suspect that the water tankers supplied are part of a scheme benefiting associates within the council, though these claims remain unconfirmed. The lack of service delivery has led to several protest actions in the past. Residents Wants Action The community's sentiment is clear: they demand a swift and sustainable resolution to their water woes and greater accountability from the JB Marks Municipality. The situation remains tense as residents await concrete actions and a return to normalcy.0040
