Exhibition Announcement
From 7 to 11 October 2025, Aardklop will present Formae Terrae, an exhibition by Potchefstroom-based artist Sandro Trapani. The event will take place at Snowflake.
Visitors are invited to join the opening gathering on 7 October at 16:00, where a glass of wine will be served.
The Artist
Sandro Trapani lives and works in Potchefstroom, South Africa. His academic research for his master’s degree centred on how behaviour shapes thought and vice versa. In his view, heritage, ethnography, and memory play central roles in how narratives evolve. This cycle of reflection can easily become absurd or obsessive, but for Trapani, the absurd is simply part of both art and life.
Over the past twenty-five years, his work has circled around the Sisyphean pursuit of truth, a pursuit that becomes less attainable the deeper he goes.
Reflections on Heritage
For Trapani, heritage and personal history are not straightforward. His father grew up as an orphan in Florence, Italy, and questions about ancestry have remained unanswered. This uncertainty has led Trapani to reflect on how history, whether personal or ancient, is full of speculation.
Objects, heirlooms, and artefacts may never provide the complete picture, but they invite curiosity and interpretation. He believes that archaeology and other historical fields highlight this reality: the past is never fully knowable, yet the fragments that remain continue to fuel new stories.
Snowflake and Aardklop
Snowflake, a landmark with more than a century of history, will provide the backdrop for Trapani’s work during Aardklop this year.
Momentum Aardklop continues to provide a stage for artists such as Trapani, offering festival-goers an encounter with art that engages with heritage, history, and the ongoing search for meaning.
