On 17 August 2025, the JB Marks Local Municipality released its verified daily service delivery progress report, providing residents with updates on road repairs, water services, departmental performance, and the reservoir system. The report reflects a mix of completed tasks, ongoing projects, and areas requiring urgent monitoring, particularly where water infrastructure and critical routes are concerned.

🚑 Road Repairs: Ensuring Hospital Access
One of the most significant updates came from Forsman and Botha Streets, where roadworks have been focused on improving hospital access routes. The municipality confirmed that work at the T-junction has reached full completion, ensuring that emergency vehicles can access the hospital without obstruction.
While this milestone was welcomed, about 10% of pothole repairs along Forsman Street remain outstanding. The municipal team has committed to resuming these repairs the following day to ensure full completion of the route. Residents have been urged to exercise caution and reduce speed when driving near the active work zones.
🚰 Water Services: Active Restorations and Repairs
Several water-related projects are currently underway across the municipality. Among these, the Sonderwater supply system remains under restoration, with completion expected by the evening of 18 August. Additional work has been carried out successfully, including clearing an air lock at the Ext 7 hydrant, repairing a connection pipe on Itireleng Street, and rebuilding meters at two properties in Extension 7.
The municipality has cautioned residents in Extension 7 that cloudy water may appear temporarily due to flushing operations, but reassured the public that this effect is harmless and will pass quickly.
📡 Department Status Updates
The report also highlighted departmental performance, where progress remains uneven. The paving team is on hold due to material shortages, while the yellow fleet unit has yet to provide any updates. Similarly, the sewage team has not submitted reports.
In contrast, the electrical crew reported no outages, suggesting stable operations in this sector. While some units appear to be operating effectively, the lack of communication from others has raised concerns about accountability and oversight.

🌊 Reservoir System: Stability With Key Watch Points
A detailed analysis of the municipality’s reservoir system reveals stable operations overall, though certain facilities remain under watch.
Old Works Reservoir, a core facility supplying the CBD and industrial areas, is operating at a healthy level of 86.36%, showing positive recovery with a 3% increase since the previous day.
Vyfhoek Complex is running optimally, with its 6.4ML reservoir at 100%. However, two 3.4ML reservoirs remain offline due to valve replacement and sediment flushing, with operations expected to resume on 19 August.
Ventersdorp Road Station shows mixed results, with reservoirs at 75%, 71%, and 64%. The 15ML unit is under close observation as it approaches a critical 60% threshold. Emergency pumping schedules have been activated to stabilise levels.
Ikageng Area reservoirs are reported as stable, with one reservoir at 78% and another at full capacity, currently covering nearly 19,200 households.
Eesterandjies Complex remains the most concerning, with one reservoir emptied for cleaning (day 7) and another isolated for pipeline corrosion repairs. Supply gaps are being covered by Ikageng West.
To mitigate risks, proactive measures include deploying two water tankers to high-risk areas, increasing pumping capacity at Old Works, and conducting leak detection patrols along critical supply lines.
📢 Community Alerts and Contact Points
Residents were reminded of several important community updates:
Final pothole repairs on Forsman Street are scheduled for completion tomorrow.
A water tanker remains stationed in the Sonderwater area.
Voluntary water conservation is encouraged for those relying on the Ventersdorp Road reservoirs.
Extension 11 households may experience cloudy water during system flushing.
Emergency contact numbers have also been made available for reporting issues related to water, sewage, roads, electricity, and disaster management, ensuring residents have direct lines to municipal support.
Final Thought
The daily service delivery update reflects both progress and ongoing challenges facing the JB Marks Municipality. While key milestones such as hospital access repairs and stable reservoir operations have been achieved, gaps remain in infrastructure maintenance and departmental communication. With close monitoring and continued community cooperation, the municipality aims to stabilise essential services and restore confidence in its ability to meet urgent needs.
