The JB Marks Local Municipality has entered a period of intensive operational activity, focusing on long-term infrastructure resilience and the empowerment of local businesses. From high-level site inspections led by the city's top leadership to specialized training for the tourism sector, the municipality is signaling a concerted effort to modernize service delivery and foster economic growth across its districts.

Executive Leadership Conducts Infrastructure Oversight
On 20 February 2026, Executive Mayor Cllr. Gaba Thithiba ka Qhele led a high-profile delegation on a series of critical site inspections. Accompanied by the Speaker of Council, Ald. Moithoesi Rosy Dassie, and Single Whip, Cllr. Lumkile Links, the group included Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs), various Councillors, and senior officials.

The oversight visit targeted several Capital Infrastructure Projects designed to upgrade aging systems and improve living conditions:
Sewerage Upgrades: Significant work is underway at Mohadin and Poortjie Dam, alongside the upgrading of the Promosa Poortjie Dam bulk sewer line.
Housing and Sanitation: Progress was monitored at Ikageng Ext. 6 and Extension 13 (Phases 2 & 3), focusing on sewer reticulation and the construction of top structures.
Water and Transport: The delegation inspected the construction of a Rising Main and Bulk Distribution Pipeline in Ikageng, as well as a new bridge at Promosa Poortjie Dam.

Boosting Local Tourism through Customer Care
In a move to strengthen the local economy, the JB Marks Local Economic and Rural Development unit, in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), concluded a two-day training initiative on 19 February 2026. This programme was specifically designed for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) within the tourism sector. The training focused on enhancing visitor satisfaction and professionalizing service standards to help position JB Marks as a "Transformed and Integrated African World-Class City."

Emergency Repair: Ventersdorp Main Water Supply
While progress continues on planned projects, the municipality is currently managing an urgent technical setback in the Ventersdorp Region. On Sunday, 22 February 2026, officials confirmed a breakdown along the main water supply line.
The Municipal Technical Team has been deployed to the site and is treating the repair as a priority. Residents in the affected areas have been asked for their patience while the team works to restore the water supply. The municipality has expressed its sincere apologies for the disruption to essential services.

The combination of strategic infrastructure oversight and proactive economic support reflects a dual approach to municipal management, though current utility breakdowns remains a primary concern for local technical teams.
