A local family in Potchefstroom is reaching out to the community to help keep a bright legal career on track. Nikita Wiese, a dedicated law student at the University of South Africa (UNISA), is currently working hard toward her dream of becoming a lawyer, but she’s hit a bit of a financial speed bump that could stall her progress.

Passion for Justice
Nikita isn’t just studying law for the title; those close to her describe her as someone with a genuine heart for justice and a drive to stand up for others. Studying through UNISA gives her the flexibility to pursue this calling, but as many families know, the costs of higher education can add up quickly. Her mother, Juanita, has stepped up to organize a BackaBuddy campaign, hoping to gather the support needed to ensure Nikita can stay focused on her books rather than her bank balance.
What’s Needed to Stay on Track
The campaign is looking to raise R40,000 to cover the essential costs that come with a demanding degree. This isn't just about tuition; it's about making sure she has the tools to succeed. The funds are being broken down into a few key areas:
Tuition & Registration: R30,000 to cover her semester fees and keep her place secured.
Books & Resources: R5,000 for those heavy (and often pricey) prescribed law textbooks.
Study Essentials: R5,000 for data, transport, and the basic necessities that keep a student going during long study sessions.

A Helping Hand
Juanita shares that while she’s doing everything in her power to back her daughter, the full amount is a heavy lift for one person. The family is hoping that through small donations and the power of social media, they can bridge the gap. They’ve made it clear that even if someone can’t donate, simply sharing the story or offering a word of encouragement makes a world of difference.
With the academic year in full swing this May, the goal is to get these costs covered so Nikita can dive into her studies without the looming stress of unpaid fees. It’s a classic story of a student with the will to succeed, just needing a little extra wind in her sails from the community to reach the finish line.
