The hallways of Potchefstroom Secondary School (PSS) are buzzing with more than just the usual academic rigor this week. From May 4th to May 8th, students and faculty are trading their traditional uniforms for costumes as the school celebrates its annual Spirit Week.
Under the rallying cry, "Let’s show our school spirit!", the event aims to foster community, creativity, and a sense of belonging among the student body. Here is the lineup for this year’s five-day celebration:

The Daily Theme Breakdown
The Student Council has curated a diverse range of themes to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy:
Date | Theme | What to Expect |
Monday, 4 May | Minion Monday | A sea of yellow and denim overalls to kick off the week with some "Despicable" energy. |
Tuesday, 5 May | Twin Tuesday | Best friends and classmates coordinate outfits to become dynamic duos. |
Wednesday, 6 May | Western Wednesday | Cowboy hats, boots, and flannel shirts take over the campus for a rustic vibe. |
Thursday, 7 May | Throwback Thursday | A nostalgic trip through the decades—expect plenty of retro windbreakers and neon. |
Friday, 8 May | Funky Friday | The week concludes with a burst of color, patterns, and "groovy" 70s-inspired fashion. |
More Than Just Dress-Up
While the costumes provide plenty of photo opportunities, the heart of Spirit Week lies in the school’s motto: "Scientia Potestas Est" (Knowledge is Power). By integrating fun with the school’s identity, PSS encourages a positive environment where students feel more connected to their peers and educators.
As the school’s slogan for the week reminds us: "Together we are PSS!" Whether you are donning a yellow shirt for Minion Monday or finding your perfect match for Twin Tuesday, the goal remains the same—be creative, have fun, and show the community what it means to be a part of Potchefstroom Secondary.
Don’t forget: Share your Spirit Week outfits on social media and tag the official school accounts to be featured in the end-of-week highlight reel!
