Cookie Chaos on 3 July
The flour's flying and the icing is at the ready for Purple Carrot Chef School’s next stop in its kids' holiday class lineup: Royal Icing Cookie Decorating. Slated for Wednesday, 3 July, this hands-on session invites kids aged 7 to 13 to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into baking, icing and decorating their own batch of biscuits.
It’s all happening from 09h00 to 12h00 at the Purple Carrot Chef School in the West Acres Centre, Potchefstroom. The cost? R150 per class. And yes, the cookies are both edible and Instagrammable.
Part of a Bigger Feast
This session is one of seven making up Purple Carrot’s “Kids Edutainment” July Holiday Classes. The idea is simple: keep kids entertained while sneaking in a few useful kitchen skills. Classes are spaced out across the month and cover a full buffet of culinary themes:
1 July – Pizza Making
3 July – Royal Icing Cookies
8 July – Mac & Cheese
9 July – Brownie & Chocolate Mousse
15 July – Chicken Sushi
16 July – Cake Decorating
18 July – Braai Day

If your kid signs up for all seven, the final class is free. Which is not nothing, considering the rising cost of fun these days.

Less Screen Time, More Batter Time
With everything from pizza to mousse and even a bit of sushi on the programme, it’s a solid attempt to get kids off their devices and into the kitchen, possibly without burning down the house. The cookie class is a good midpoint: a bit of baking, a lot of sugar, and no hot oil or sharp knives involved.
For parents wondering whether this counts as “educational” the word “edutainment” is doing some heavy lifting here, let’s just say they’ll leave knowing what royal icing is, how to pipe it, and maybe even how to clean up afterwards.
Booking? Don’t Wing It
Spots are limited, so anyone keen should probably get in touch sooner rather than later. After all, kids, sugar, and creative chaos? That fills up fast.
